Question for the cyclists
I think I know how this is going to go, but bear with me.
My youngest brother bought this bike at a garage sale for $40 and for some reason thinks he might have something rare or valuable based on a few things (I forget what he said... it was a couple of weeks ago). He used to ride a lot (some competitively), but some bad decisions and the passing of time means he just rides for getting around now. Anyway, I asked him to send me some photos of it so I could ask y'all if it's worth anything. Sorry about the horrible cellphone pics... I asked him to take photos outside in sunlight, but he must've forgotten. ![]() ![]()

I don't recognize that frame at all. Do you have any photos of the front of the head tube? Any decals on the seat tube? Any markings on the crank or wheels?

Judging by the additional screw holes for racks on both front and rear dropouts, Its an avg. bike at best. But then again, it can be an expensive touring bike from the 80s-90s? Need a better close up pic. Get a pic of the sticker under the seat on seat tube (vertical tube )

look at the down tube going to the bottom bracket, what is it made out of.
post pics of the weld joints. never heard of it, personally I dont think it is anything just curious, post the name on the brake calipers, rear derailleur and crank arms. oh, post the front of the brake/shift levers

I don't ride anymore but I used to be a serious road cyclist back in about the era that it looks like that bike would have come from. I don't recognize it as anything of note and I agree w/ the above comments about the rack lugs on the dropouts...sure sign of nothing special.

can't find that brand/model on bikeapeda or google
just picked up a centuron ironman dave scott 105 + 600 parts also not listed in bikeapeda but well known and loved and sought after by the triathlon people and worth used about 20 times what I paid for the bike https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16ha6RGbop29MRLj1tYzgl22YVDT5gPzjLMHVgvbRxEk/edit#gid=1041269477 Last edited by nota; 03-06-2018 at 07:37 AM.. |

Banned but not out, yet..

Was pretty hardcore in the 80s-2000 and never heard of it. Probably is worth what was paid. I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

The few details I can see suggest it's from the early 90s if the components are original. Short-reach brakes and tight clearances suggest it was designed for 700c x 25; not a touring bike, which would have had cantis, a longer rear triangle, more relaxed geometry and more tire clearance. Dropout eyelets were common even on bikes that otherwise didn't have any real accomodation for fenders. Probably a mid-range sport tourer. Can't tell who made the frame or what quality of tubing is used without more detail shots as suggested above.

been out of it quite a while too. looks like it would have been my era also.
I stopped around 02 or 03. got back on 10yrs later, got hit by a car and that bought me a 930. most bike riding ever paid off I bet it ahs old RX100 components

Looks like a cheap bike. Is the campy tag an ad on sticker or clear coated over.

you need a pic of the hubs.
cant see what the frame is made of. find out about the components on the bike, perhaps someone upgraded with some nice campy stuff.

One photo shows a sticker that says "Cro-moly tubing" on the frame. In that era if it didn't say Columbus tubing (SL, SLX, etc) then it's not a high end steel frame. Chromoly was boasted only on low end, inexpensive bikes.

Wheels are probably pretty good, bars are nice if you like that shape (I hate it.) Hard to tell frame material from photo, but it looks like O/S tubing, which, given the era, makes aluminum possible, though the rear triangle looks like steel. If it's steel, it's welded or maybe fillet-brazed. The last isn't likely, though. Nickshu correct about tubing - if it isn't Reynolds or Columbus, it's probably nothing special. Nicer frames would have had forks with a sloping crown rather than a unicrown fork.

Tubes do not look large enough to be Aluminum.

I see the tell-tale signs of brifters. That's not nothing in an early 90's build.

Now in 993 land ...
|
Should have spent the money on a better cell phone. My god. I can't make out anything on the frame images.
That said, I don't see anything that's making this a "score". You'd want a name brand frame such as Colnago, De Rosa or even Basso, Rossin etc. etc. for it to make you any money. I may be mistaken but campa wheels and TTT bar won't make this a super deal either. G |
