Mosin Nagant?

1928 version.

i kid you not, my brother gets all the luck. my mom's elderly neighbor (my 8th grade school principle) walked over and handed him two guns. a 1928 MN, and some TC 50 cal muzzle loader.

what's the story on the mosin? the rifles look cherry! that's the rifle the Hailstone lady on that alaska show is killing eveything with i think.

Those guns have killed more German soldiers than ARs have killed total people. About 10 years ago when Phoenix was doing one of those silly gun buybacks, Mosins were going for $69 and the buybacks were paying $100. You can imagine how that went.

I had the same rifle,

Sold it to a PP brother.

I bought it at Big5, check there Vash if you want one (all 1940's WWII surplus, they have barrels of um)

You can really reach out and touch someone with one of those. Do yourself a favor and get one of those pads to put between the butt of the rifle and your shoulder.

The 1928 version is going to be MUCH more nicely finished than the 1943 version

The recoil is no worse than our M1 Garand. Nice MN’s can be had for around $300 these days. A fun gun to shoot. Take it to the range and have some fun.

Dad has one and has had it since he was young. One day while hunting he got tired of carrying the thing and cut most of the fore-stock off. It still shoots well. Interesting spoons but hte ammo is less easy to find here. Then again, he doesn't shoot it much the last few decades. More of a novelty now.

These used to be $20 at gun shows in Canada in the early 80's. I recall barrels of them at gun shows. The problem? No ammo (at the time).

We had one with a bayonette hanging above the fireplace in our family room from about 1980-1986 when we moved. My dad sold it to a teenage friend of mine in about 1987.

Now, you can get ammo and they are actually quite accurate and shoot 7.62x54 rounds. I've shot one and it pierced 3/8" thick P-110 well casing (in and out).

I have one too. Loud and make sure you have a good stance. I cant imagine carrying one into battle.

Looks like your run of the mill 91/30. Need pics of the rec to know whether Izzy or Tula. The stock has been stripped of its shellac finish. It's a great piece of history but not worth much. I bought a few of mine for $79 about ten years ago. They might go for $150 max today.

Mine kicks like a friggen goat on PCP. I love it.

Mosin-Nagant: You get out of your truck, see an elk on top of a hill, and realize you really can use iron sights that far.

AR15: You measure your misses by sub MOA measurements
AK47: You miss and, and aim a bit lower this time.
Mosin-Nagant: Even if you miss the shockwave of the bullet will kill the animal.

AR15: You are careful to keep in clean in the field.
AK47: You don’t worry so much about some dirt getting in it.
Mosin-Nagant: It still has gritty grease inside it from when the Finnish army put it into storage.

AR15: Your bayonet will do an alright job of butchering your kill if needed.
AK47: The bayonet doubles as a decent hunting knife.
Mosin-Nagant: Your bayonet can be used to spit roast an entire pig.

AR15: Nice and light for carrying over obstructions.
AK47: Handy package for carrying over obstructions.
Mosin-Nagant: You can pole vault over obstructions.

AR15: Can’t run dry or you get seizure.
AK47: Can run dry, but may cause laquered ammo to stick in chamber.
Mosin-Nagant: Just handling the bolt gives it enough oil to operate smoothly.

They made many many millions of them. Lots available. Go to any gun show and you can have your choice of dozens at least.

Nice gun. I would also like to give a shout for our own Swedish Mauser CG m/96. IMHO a nicer and more "modern" interpretation of the theme (it came 1896). Also, 6.5mm round is quicker, flatter and recoil is lower. Finish is better as well.

If MN is John Deere, M/96 is Fendt.
