My cousin is a compulsive liar like this. We were really close growing up, when his lies were small. He's now seemingly on a quest to impress complete strangers with his talk about his law firm, many businesses, Porsche collection, etc. He'll tell these lies when I'm standing right there, knowing full well that I know he's full of it, but he goes on and doesn't miss a beat. Before he got married he lied to his fiance about his age. He ended up lieing about cheating on her and is now divorced. As far as I'm concerned if he tells me the sun is shining I'll go look out the window to be sure. I haven't seen him in a few years because I can't stand it.

Terry ?? I was stuck working with Terry in a small lab, 4 hours a day for years. If his eyes rolled up and to the left, a big lie was coming. Some days I wanted to kill him.

I had a friend from my late teen age years that lied about his success - and other things. Told me he had his own company making big money but turned out to only be a route stocking business offices with coffee and supplies. Said he sold it to his son for 1.4 million. Also told me his second wife was a cardiologist but turned out to be an X-ray tech. There were too many things like that to recount. His second wife called me up one day to tell me they had a fight, and he went into the garage, got a revolver out of the glove compartment, went into the back yard, put it his mouth and pulled the trigger. The thing was he did come through on some things once in a while. His wife & I both agreed on that when she called to tell me. I always thought he had finally realized about himself what everybody around him knew.

I had a friend from pre-teens that exaggerated & lied all the time. He was pretty intelligent but he felt he was absolutely brilliant and kept telling anyone & everyone how successful & rich he was going to be.
He sucked in a few of our other friends who lost their money and reputations in his schemes - I didnt ever invest or lend money to to him (but did help he & his wife out with things like accommodation when he really needed it. That never had a good ending). He got treatable cancer and died early because he refused to accept medical reality - like Steve Jobs. I thought I was smart not giving him money, but he got me in the end because I had to help out with his funeral expenses as he died a pauper. We were friends after all. I had a friend, shall we call him Wayne. His whole life was soooo amazing yet he worked for a government department. His stories were so far fetched that we started to doubt him after a while, and maybe he wasn't actually a priest and that his girlfriend wasn't actually a supermodel, and we had never actually met her because she's working on an assignment in Los Angeles, or was that Paris. Which is quite impressive for a short fat balding bloke.
To call his bluff one of the guys was in Perth and rang up Wayne's family to say hello, being one of Wayne's closest friends it was all OK. Well, it turned out his family were actually multi multi millionaires and showed him some wonderful hospitality. But my sister bumped into him the other day and told me about how well Wayne is doing blah blah blah, and he has a really amazing girlfriend who unfortunately she didn't get to meet because she was on a modeling assignment in Los Angeles. I mentioned this to the other guys who explained it's not actually a girlfriend he has, and the friend works in the same government department with him. |

This is my brother in law! Always tells us to meet him somewhere then never shows, we have quit waiting. Tried to BS us when he knocked up his girlfriend and tried to play it like she got pregnant after their shotgun wedding, sorry buddy but we can do math. Owes my in-laws a bunch of money that he borrowed to get a house he can’t afford, always tells them that he’s mailed a check and it must have gotten lost. They never call him on it, I just ignore him best as I can.

My friend is a true cumpulsive. His tales are easily proven untrue. And they are not all about him.
One stand out in my memory. I just got my BFA in photography. His mom sought me out and gave me the biggest hug. She congratulated me. Enthusiastically. Way more than she should have for me getting a degree that is super tough to follow up, with a job. I said Thanks” She said, ‘Jim (named changed to ,,,)told me you landed a job at NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICS” I was floored. WTF!!!??? I told her “ no, that didn’t pan out, her son was wrong” She just said , ‘oh Jimmy”. And walked away. His mom knew he had issues. This guy told a lie about me? To puff me up! That is insanity.

If a "friend" continuously lies to me, I don't feel the need to remain his friend, I don't have time for B.S.

He called me last week.
Based on your experience, I didn’t answer the phone.
