Today is a Happy Day! Paid off my Mortgage :)

I shouldn't be bragging but I can't seem to contain myself. Totay I paid my very last mortgage payment! Took 19.5 years which is quicker than expected but I rounded up every payment and that trimmed several years off my 30 year loan. I also made several additional principal payments whenever I could.

I think it's time to have a "F#%k The Man" party.

CONGRATS! This hits close to home, we are making a concerted effort to get this done by the middle of 2018. Then we will be officially debt free. The 911 will end up getting sold as part of this effort, but I really want to be debt free. Being laid off in 2014 made us super motivated to not only increase our rate of savings but also to throw extra money at the house to eliminate that liability. Almost there!

I was in Nantucket years ago. They had a ritual for this. I like it:

When someone paid off their mortgage, a hole was drilled into the newel post at the bottom of the staircase. An ivory plug was made with the initial of the homeowner carved in the top. Then mortgage document was burned and the ashes were put into the hole and then plugged.

Congrats! Achievement of the American Dream!!!

Truly something to be proud of, and brag about, welcome to the club. We just need to get the kids through college, and off of our insurance, then be able to do some upgrades.

Congratulations. We paid ours off a couple of years ago and it has been awesome. Having a little wiggle room in you budget is a great feeling. Be sure to turn as much of the old mortgage payment into savings as you can.

Congrats, Vern. I got that monkey off my back just a few years ago and have been shrinking the hamster wheel ever since on a glide path to a more relaxing life!

I canceled my homeowner's insurance right afterwards and have saved there as well.

Congrats, super ! We are close, I think 4 more payments. I am also going to be letting my 930 go this season, and eliminating all my debt .
We are going to have a go at being a single income family ( mine) so are having to tighten our belts a little bit .
Im actually looking forward to being frugal. We wasted soo much money when we had it . I want off the hamster wheel also .
My last hurdle will be my commercial building . I've got a ways to go, but Ive been hustling on it, and once my other debts are resolved, I am going to double down.

Why contain yourself?

This is a big deal; smart, efficient use of your money and to be admired.

I took a 25 year mortgage on my farm and paid it off early...I ran the numbers (run the numbers all the time across our portfolio) and it made sense so I really bought the farm two years ago.

Congratulations...pass your smarts to the next generation!

It is a great feeling. Now just remember you are responsible for the insurance and the property taxes. Those combine to be the house payment that NEVER stop. The gift that keeps on giving, um I mean TAKING!

We paid off our house several years ago and we are completely debt free.
