Now this guy, maybe. He loves everybody. Lab/Rotti mix and a big boy. Has a tremendous bark that resonates very well through solid doors. . There’s been the rare occasion on very early morning walks in the dark where we’ve come across the rare person he didn’t like the feel of and in those instances he goes into this tense/ alert posture but, totally silent. A little unnerving. I think he’d get the job done.
Our current lab has that deep resonant bark. I don't know how she does it but the first time she barked at something in the night it made my neck hair stand up. Reminds me of the movie Bolt and his super bark. She seldom uses it but now and then the beagle will annoy her and she barks in his face setting off his bark collar.

I work out in the field a lot and have had run-ins with a few thousand dogs over the years.

Bitten by: Mastiff, several shepherds, dobie, Pomeranian, schnauzer, (all were a single warning bite but drew blood).

Heel nipped by: Queensland heelers, Jack Russells, Aussies, daschunds

Handed the ball by: Pits, labs, goldens, cockers, rotties, jack russells, daschunds, assorted mutts.

One of my Blue Tic Hounds was generally pretty sleepy but did not like men in hats. After work one day I came in through the back gate to stock some feed bags for the horses and then proceeded towards the house with my hat on. This hound woke from a dead sleep, leapt up and charged at me baying the whole way. She jumped off a retaining wall and flew about 10 feet mid air on an intercept course and when I called her name I could see the whites of her eyes as she realized who I was. "Ruh roh!" Eighty pounds of hound bounced off my chest as she tucked her teeth back in her mouth and instantly became submissive.

Not the brightest dog I ever owned, and I would hate to be the hay delivery guy wearing a cowboy hat.

I do not think Lucy is capable of being mean. She is a 2 year old Potcake mutt and would probably leave with my killer without a backwards glance.

20 lbs of fury right here, she thinks the entire world has been put here to play with her.

Back in the days when I had my doberman I shopped at a local grocery store and the had a custom butcher shop. I was in there a lot, and they all knew me. The butcher would wrap up a leg bone with the knuckle on it still. My dog loved it. One spring day the gas meter reader guy knocked on my front door. He asked if he could read the meter to double check his reading he came up with using binoculars. I said sure and we walked into the back yard. He was terrified of my super friendly dog. He then pointed out two leg bones and an old tennis shoe she liked to chew on. He said is that the last meter reader! I laughed and realized it was time to clean up the old bones. In the winter they did not stink. Come spring, in the trash they went.

Later he told me the gas meter was bad and stopped reading my gas consumption and they would have tor replace it.

One day saw my last golden go after a rabbit. They went around the corner of the house. Heard the very loud low growly WOOOOF. It was startling. A couple of seconds and the golden came happily trotting around the corner carrying the now dead rabbit. Don't know if she bit it, snapped it's neck, or just scared it to death with that woof.

Not sure what would happen to the attacker but I know I would hear about it way before anything happened! These girls are ALERT 24/7!

Would Your Dog Save You From a Violent Home Invader? Putting Pups to the Test

Quote:
If a masked intruder broke into your home, would your dog attack or tuck its tail and run away?

Inside Edition put some dogs to the test to find out whether they would confront the burglar, or wimp out.

In a recent case, a robber kicked down the door of a home with two dogs — but instead of teaming up to take him down, the canines took off.

In a home outside Philadelphia, one dog ran away as a burglar hurled a plate at it.

Inside Edition tested Perry, a 5-year-old yellow Labrador, at her home in Irvington, N.Y.

Her owner, Michelle Kellaher, loves her dog but wonders if Perry would go the extra mile to save her.

"I hope she tries to protect me," Kellaher told Inside Edition.

To find out, Inside Edition enlisted the help of Nate Bonilla and Michael D’Abruzzo of K9-1 Specialized Dog Training.

Vash's words..."Total dog management. I couldn't do that".

You're not kidding! I would not do another Boerboel. We've lived with 10 years of extreme liability and 100% dog management. Even though we've never been safer, 150 lbs of over-protective dog is a HUGE responsibility. My next dog with be so ethical like BAZ'a girls. I want an alert dog to sound a warning. Let me decide how to handle it.

Neighbor across the street has a couple of dobermans and was gone all weekend.
When they returned they called the police. The dobermans had kept a burglar cornered in a bedroom with a pillowcase of loot for more than 24 hours waiting for the owners to return.
The burglar had soiled himself. But was caught red handed.
The neighbors said the burglar said the dogs seemed nice until he started to leave with the stuff. Then they chased him into a corner and took turns making sure he didn't get away.

My sister's Tibetan Spaniel would attack and jump on the intruder. Then lick them to death. He may also fart and try to drive them away.

My Borgi OTOH, would bark, snarl, growl and defend. All is safe, unless it was a cat. Then she would yelp, howl and run.

I have a large standard poodle (65 pounds). With 99% certainty he would run around in circles barking if someone attached me.

But the other 1% is reminded of the deep surprisingly scary growl he has emitted when camping and someone approaches us in the dark.

My current lab might lick you to death. My German shepherd that passed away last year would have gone for the jugular if someone threatened my/her family. She was gentle as a lamb but don't mess with her flock.

Nope, I don't want a junk yard dog. I don't want liability of a dog bite on a innocent neighbor. I want a dog that is total submissive, and nonthreatening. Any pro thief can disable most dogs with a big slab of meat or kill a dog quickly.

Protecting my property and family is my job. Any intruder will have a bad case of lead poisoning. My dogs are for our enjoyment, not protection.

I think that is backwards. We are for the dogs enjoyment.
