Finally pet the beast and she lights up like Christmas. Heaven for her. So strong just the dog wiggling marked up my arms from the studs. Now I know why they put them on. Extry damage.

Owner says don't pet her. I don't want her to like strange people.

The dog is there to give you time to get to something a little more definitive.
And to give the kids pony rides...

But otoh they do tend to deter casual strangers from wandering in uninvited.

That is quite possible!

Our last dachshund had the best personality. She was a "Will Rogers dog" She never met a human she did not like. She greeted all humans as someone that would scratch her ears, and maybe rub her belly.

ANYONE we invite into our house had better be nice to our dogs, or they will have me to answer to. No doubt the house is maintained for the comfort and pleasure of the dogs.

They are forced to both squeeze into up with a dog bed big enough for a Great Dane in the living room during the day. At night they sleep in our room in yet another bed that is just a little smaller.

Protection dog..........

I have a Great Pyrenees, a 160 lb, male Great Pyrenees. If he knows you, he is very laid back but otherwise, he immediately goes "on guard"! Would he protect me or my wife? You betcha! I have seen him bite thru a beef rib bone in one or two tries! Would not want to be on the receiving end of that!

From time to time, my Borgi chews on gravel.

My brindle pup thinks everyone is his friend. The brown one does not like sketchy looking characters or people yelling at or hitting someone else. He is a sweetheart about 99% of the time.

I have the sweetest most fun loving boxer in the world. He loves everyone and is fiercely protective of the family. He had to guard my wife once from a stranger in our backyard and listed to the commands given to him. Probably due to a game we play. He guards the kids/wife and does not let me near them, when I command stop he quits.

Our little circus monkey has a pretty mean bark and is very protective but immediately wants to be picked up and protected if someone gets too close.

She was less than a couple of hours before being put down at a very high kill shelter and we grabbed her and brought her home. I think she is not only trying to protect us but also "saying" don't you take me back to that shelter! She knows she has it made now!

My guys are good natured mutts. I think by the time they realized I was in danger I would have either won or lost.

Many years ago I came home to find my house had been burgled. Anything and everything of the remotest value was stolen. My cat was VERY happy. Either they had been mean to her and she was very pleased to see me, or more likely she'd had a thoroughly good day helping them out around the house. So No, the cat wouldn't save me either.

Dachshunds are super alert and brave dogs, even the mini ones. They're quick to bark a warning. That's what I want...a simple early warning system.

I love my Tankster, but I'm tired of worrying about coming home to a dead pool cleaner because my wife forgot and put him outside on a Wednesday. He only has a couple months to live now, and it will break my heart, but be a nice sense of relief as well. 11 years of 100% dog management is exhausting.

i joke about my dog..

but that adopted mutt is pretty good. during our wildfire incident, he woke us up and totally went nuclear option on the poor guy knocking on doors to tell people to evacuate. and when i was outside with the crowds, he wouldnt leave my side.

my wife went back to bed for a bit, i sat on the couch..the poor dog kept going back and forth checking on each of us.

he's alright by my book.
