Range time, how often do you practice?

Trying to justify purchasing new spoon(s), I discovered a range about 10 minutes from my house and thinking I could set up a regular practice schedule.

Hoping this doesn't turn into a gym membership thing where you pay $$ and then go once a year (I have never had a gym membership, lets just say I know people who do and almost never go).

Along those lines if you go often how do you keep it interesting? It seems like punching holes in paper would get old after a while. I am looking at tow other hand spoons so I could rotate use to keep it fresh.

And yeah I know some of you have your own firing range at home and don't have to worry about such things

When I had to drive my daughter to dance and wait for a few hours, it was multiple times per week. Then at least once a week. Now with my school schedule, at least once every two weeks, weather depending. Nice day considering the TS that is on the way, if I can finish my school work, honey-dos, and a few other things I'll be headed out today. Gotta try the new trigger I put in the AR

Life was different last few years once every 3 weeks. Now once every two months

Two or three times a month, seasonally dependent - but I have my own range(s): pistol, rifle and skeet.

Outdoor ranges rule.

None, haven't had interesting in owning or using.

But each time the ability to own/enjoy gets chipped away my interest goes up a little.

I've joined 2 different ranges in my area. I dropped then because I wasn't going enough.

At the price of Ammo, the range cost ($15) is minimal.

If you wait long enough, you'll want one, but can't have one.

Home on the range............

We used to have a range just a few (4-5) miles from the house. When it was open, I would go sometimes 2-3 times a week. After it closed (leasing issues), I joined a club that is about 35 miles away. If I'm lucky, I get there once a week. If not, a couple times a month. I really need to go more, much more!

I can do 8 minutes door to door, so it's an easy drive. So no excuses. I go once every three weeks I guess. Sometimes to just stand around talking.

Most of the year, I hit the range about once a month and bring 3-4 spoons with me.

During skeet season I go weekly for two months in addition to my monthly session.

During pistol league, I go weekly for two months in addition to my monthly session.

So I end up going about 28 times a year, or a little more frequently than every other week.

I need to go more. I’ve only been once since I got back from Atlanta back in late Feb.

I’ve got one within 15 and the other 30 minutes away. Both in the national forest.

Maybe tomorrow...

I have my own range on my place out just past 300 meters. I retired so I have the time. I shoot a little bit on most days so the poll doesn't apply. I'll just go with the top choice.

When I lived in Texas, father in law had a nice range set up in his back yard, so it was easy to shoot every weekend, and he has a nice selection of hand held cannons to test drive.

The range that is closest to the house is under threat of closing. Not a bad little spot, have to get there early sometimes or you need to wait for a lane on weekends, nice people, have enough sense to keep big pieces of cardboard for the Mini 14 guys that otherwise are gonna throw brass two rows over. It has been there a LONG time. Stuck it way out on BFE edge of the county, past the Air Force base, few miles past auto dismantler row. The built a little strip mall and what looks like a few blocks of duplexes on the corner where you turn to get to the range, coincidentally, where you turn to get to the closest local auto cross venue. Someone complaining about the noise from the range that was there at least 20 years before their house was built. Maybe they should not have moved in next to the airport and gun range if the noise bothers them. Will still be other options, but farther away. Out in the national forest is best, but that is a fair weather operation, not an option in the winter.

I go to my club range at least once a week. I'm always playing with new bullet molds, new jacketed bullets, new powders, etc., so in spite of the fact that we can only shoot paper, it never really gets boring for me. Granted, I have my current "go to" loads for each firearm for which they remain zeroed, but if I find something better, it may become its new "go to" load.

I bet I shoot ten rimfire rounds for every centerfire round I shoot. Then, on top of that, I shoot at least ten air gun rounds for every rimfire. When I'm at the range, I always bring a rimfire just to get more trigger time. I shoot the air guns at home pretty much every day.

The closest gravel pit where shooting is still allowed is a two hour drive for me. Thank you very much anti-gun Seattle liberals and their cohorts in King County - they have shut down all shooting outside of established ranges. Anyway, I make that two hour drive maybe once a month at most. It gets pretty crowded, being the only one in about three counties. That's where the fun targets get to come out, though.

Speaking of noise...

Our range is an open area that was once a quarry in what is now a very residential area. Often someone new to the area wants to get us shut down. They recently built a hockey field next to the pistol club. The noise inspectors came around with their machines at the complainers houses, and found that a hockey ball hitting the backstop is louder than pistols being fired.
