hey guys, sorry i been m.i.a. on this thing for awhile, i got caught up in landspeed racing at bonneville and had a bunch of motorcycle stuff goin on. but ive sold a bunch of bikes and i got a hankerin to get back goin on this thing since i got all the pain in the neck stuff done!
i do have a question, its not really bodywork oriented, but oh well. before i tore the car down, i had it at a shop, and the tech said it was only runnin on 5 cylinders, and that one of my head studs was broke. so i was gonna tear the motor down to the shortblock. shud i get all new headstuds for both sides? what kind shud i get? what else will i need if the pistons and cylinders are all good? thanks in advance! |

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to bring this thread back from the dead because the car has changed hands and had been stored in a barn since Carl (super rat) sold it. Back in early 2013, I think, he sold the car to a friend of his whom took the car in its unfinished state and packed it away. During that time, Carl and I became acquainted over our mutual love for boy bands, glitter paint and whipped cream, er, wait I mean Ducati's. Yeah, that's it. *clears throat*. Anyway, Carl's friend needed to remodel a kitchen or something uninteresting and Carl knew I had been building on some Porsche's out of my small-ass shop and I'm quite a fan of "bettering and enhancing" cars, so he told me about the car and that it was going to hit eBay soon. 10 minutes later, I owned it. Not even kidding. Here's the fun part--I never saw the car or this thread. So, I met the owner on my way to do a ride to Winthrop with a couple Duc buddies, and traded paper. Still hasn't seen it. Fast forward a year and a half, and I lay eyes on it and suddenly developed erectyle disfunction. The reveal was kind of a cool thing though since it was literally a barn find for me, stuffed in the back corner of a barn for years, in the snow, a barn whose roof had collapsed within oh, 10 feet of the car earlier this year. Nice try, barn. So we load the rust bucket onto the trailer and get it to its new home where I can evaluate it and see my first SWB car. Funny thing is, by the time I got it back, the car rusted on the road, and I only live 2 hours away! Damnit. After parking it and a few friends dropped by to see this mystery car I never produced, I started digging into it. The car should have included a fifth of whiskey because I would've loved a drink after seeing what I saw... Carl's work speaks for itself. And so does the previous owner's work but in a very bad, "if I ever meet you I will stab you" kind of way. My best guess is that this car is not one, not two, but at LEAST three different cars made into one. Ever heard the term, "Russian hack-job"? Meet it's genesis. I need professional help, guys. Can anyone look at the pic of the underside of the front where the fuel tank was and tell me if that weld there is factory or if it looks like the front end was welded on from another car? I'm seeing the same stuff under the bonnet, as the Brits would say. Is there supposed to be welds at about the halfway mark of where the engine sits? Trying to figure out what's left of the '66. The PO really wanted a 930 it seems! Fenders, dash, doors, hood, trunk, bumpers, and drivetrain are all from a later 70's car. What has me really worried, is that the front and rear clips were hacked off and had much later donor pieces welded in place. Very sad, indeed. I seriously hope I'm wrong here. Aside from that, there is a mountain of metal work to be done and lots and lots more damage and rusted holes all over the body. Unfortunately, the walking urethra of a PO cut the fenders so ****** high up the body, that it's at the damn window sills and it's all warped. That's why Carl was seeing such thick bondo everywhere, to hide the idiot's terrible welding and all the bumps and waves in the fenders. I hope the window trim on the quarters isn't all bondo as well. Wouldn't surprise me though... If it wasn't for Carl's extensive amount of labor and love into this car, I would cut my losses and part it out and start with a clean roller. But, Carl is on board to get back to work on this one, so maybe it might live again? Experts, your knowledge is needed! |

I'll get a shot of the cut and welds on the rears, oh yeah and the rockers (not Carl's). Next post of it safely in the new shop. |
