304065, what brand of seam sealer have you been using? Scott, notice the mig wire on the factory pic above. Keep on posting super rat.

We used the Wuerth stuff, dispensed with a pneumatic gun, lay a bead over the seam and then use a coarse brush to give it the "factory" look. Some guys mask for the seam sealer, the factory never did, ol' Hans und Franz just hit it with a brush to spread it out and called it cool, you can see them doing it in the old dark videos.

Look at this guy, kicks open a can of Teroson sealant and lays it on a 356. . .

Do you know which one from Wurth you bought? They offer several different ones and my sales guy was not much help. Did you use the pneumatic gun sold by Wurth or a generic one?

so ive been lookin at some of the build threads on here,i really loike the steel dash early cars, does anyone know if i pulled my dash off if underneath the dash on a '66 looks like that or did my car come from the factory with a plastic dash? this car has been changedso much i cant figure anything out.not much for pics cuz all im doin is wire wheeling.

Fritter 11-08-2010 08:12 PM

Yes a 66 will have the steel surround that is painted black around the gauges. Someone changed that on your car from stock? :0

super rat 11-08-2010 09:23 PM

awesome!..i loathe the dash in my car,i think i'll re-design the whole thing!

i like that! its funny,i was layin in bed last night thinkin about how i want the car to look. i somehow want to get it to look like an early 911,but with the flaired out fenders, maybe round out the front and rear ends,i dont know..its hard to explain. im probably not gonna be able to figure it out until i get the car back on itswheels, and i can sit back and stare at it for a bit. but i can almost guarantee the bumpers gotta go! but i hate to trash talk about what im gonna do before i figure out if i got the skills to doit. but in the past, when ihave an idea,i usually figure out a way to excecute it,so i'll leave itat that.thanks for the video fishcop!

Fritter 11-10-2010 04:52 AM

Fishcop, that is an interesting video. Reminds me of a B29 or something. I bet it's light. Would be lighter without the huge speakers!

Superrat, if you want my opinion, keep the car close to period correct, like a 67R or a 68TR. Not saying you can't fabricate more stuff, you have crazy skills there....but don't make it something it's not, like a 993!

You could somehow weld the stock bumpers on to smooth it out....that might be really cool.

super rat 11-11-2010 06:58 PM

yeah,i hear ya,i was gonna get rid of the bumpers and the big rubber things on em and just fab some new smoother lighter bumpers,i agree about all them speakers, when im drivin the porshce i kinda like just listening to the engine myself.

can anyone tell me what this is and do i need it?

jibmaster1 11-12-2010 08:23 PM

Looks like something to do with collecting fumes from the fuel? Look in that manual of yours. Er, wait you probably don't have one now do you now... ;) Did you see that 79' 930 f/s? btw that roto hammer rocks. I'll get it back to you soon.

Fritter 11-12-2010 09:52 PM

Looks like you have MFI harness and the charcoal canister....someone really spent a lot of time jacking up your 66!

304065 11-16-2010 03:23 AM

None of the items in that photo is original to a 66

charcoal canister
weatherpack connector
lwb (1969-1973) electrical connector and harness

they can be removed, may be parts from another year

pksystems 01-23-2011 06:10 AM

Pinarelloman 01-24-2011 10:19 PM

Mate,
I have sat here drinking a cold beer and reading this for the last 1.5hrs.
Your skills are amazing and the work top notch.
It may not be 100% original, but you would need an expert to pick the difference.
Congratulations and I will follow this with interest.

super rat 02-13-2011 06:52 PM

sorry guys, i had to roll the porsche across the street to my storage shop, cuz ive had to do sheetmetal work on some customer cars, plus i been tryin to sell some of my other collectables so i can dump some money into this project. but i did get the floor painted and the car flipped back over. i did get that motorcycle done,i'll try n paste a link to the magazine shoot on herehttp://www.derosaphotography.com/Other/Super-Rat/War-Crimes-20110109/15409659_qPXqq#1153345773_FmPzy

Wow, great pictures and nice bike. It doesn't look real comfortable, but the details are very cool!
