Should I be rescuing this or running away?

This car is worse than described. It's just worse in every way. I will rescue it if I get some encouragement to do so, I'm in it as is, but would run away if I need to. So, what kind of oppinions am I going to get here? I bought floors and front pans with the idea that it's all it needs, but that center tunnel.....is it too much? Thanks.




It is Albert Blue and I just really think it would be so cool. I have a 76 930 engine I just rebuilt for it too. hmmm, I'm a little bummed out man.

I suppose one can re-construct a car on almost anything. That would certainly be a challenge, but I don't think I would consider it. That center tunnel is basically a hunk of iron oxide. Even the "good" steel on that car likely has corroded to a certain extent on the back side. So, by the time you are done, the shell will likely have a little less integrity then when it was new.

That would be the decider for me: If I could not restore the car to "as new" condition, I would look for a better candidate.

Why do you want to take such a huge project on? That's gonna be a ton of work and $$. Why not start with a solid candidate and spend your time and money on making it wicked fast and riding on rails?

If you got skills like speedo then go for it but if you dont run away that car is real close to structural failure I would suspect the rockers are the only think holding it up and they are not far behind the floor plans. You could get a tunnel from any dismantler. Do you have a frame machine to put it on?

Fishcop says run. That says a lot considering your personal experience. It's a lot, but it really isn't quite as bad as the photos. Top of the tunnel is solid an the rockers have been done before. But it is pretty bad. I haven't even opened up the lonitudinals.

Take another look if it's not that bad and you can handle the job,then go for it.It will only cost you your time and in the end you will feel good with what you accomplished.

At worse,you can strip it completely and have the entire car sandblasted and figure afterwards if you still want to get into it.
When you have that kind of corrosion,because it's more than just rust,you will be shocked at
what little solid metal remains ...

All true, and I have no connection to this car other than I own it. Feel like I may have been duked although I did know there was rust, just not so deep. On the outside it's straight though, it has seemingly rusted from the inside out too, water leak through the rear window area as it's still wet inside the carpet and foam and there is mold on the vinal. Ewww. We'll see, me and my boys are tearing into it deeper each night.

Run - they rust from the inside out. you haven't seen anything yet about the true extent of the rust

Was that car found at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean? I don't see how you could possibly save that car, unless you are ready to custom make every panel. Is it worth it?

run, you can find so much better to start with and if your emotional attachment is the color, paint another one! unless that had some unique vin provenance, its parts, rusty worn out ones at that.

No way, run. Welding patch panels is one thIng, but having to weld one off patches in on the sides of the tunnel, etc, just to have ssomething to weld the patch panels to would suck.

I think its pretty close to.. how much time you have & if you want to be driveing any
time soon. Other than that, if you have skills ... there is alot of nice parts on it, Id be
on the look for a better body... Maybe you can do some blasting on it to see where
your at.

Looks like another fun project. If you have 10 years and patience just cut it all out and do what I'm doing.
