I thought some of the pics I took earlier this year when I was messing with my AC among other things. I was wondering where the heck the AC relay was in the smugglers box! Going back through my pics I found it. I find it helpful to shoot several shots wide and tight at least for a frame of reference.

I ran into same problem. A/C worked fine in the morning, but on way home from work temps at 105 degrees. First check fuses all good then check A/C compressor relay, it was good. Next did a jumper wire on Compressor clutch relay plug 87 to 30. Should of heard clutch clicking. No click. Check wire for power all good. Ended up changing compressor clutch coil. It was fried. All works great now. Good luck!

Is anybody is still watching this thread?
I'm in the middle of a total A/C revamp using Kuehl componennts. My smuggler's box relay appears to be bad and I have ordered a new one, but I have a question about the schematic. 1986 911 turbo My terminal 87 is always + 12V NOT terminal 30, as described above?? When the key is on, 86 has 12V, which should close the points in the relay. If the relay was functional, it would allow 12V on 30. The wire leading from 30 goes forward to the A/C switch in the console. Am I on drugs again, or did Porsche change the wiring? I think the current wiring will function, but it bugs me to have a deviation. I don't think I have a factory schematic for turbos beyond 1977. terry

Follow-up info.
The 87 and 30 pins on MY smuggler box relay ARE reversed from the wiring diagram. Not sure why they deviated from the diagram, but the new relay works and so does the evaporator blower. The reversal just made it hard to diagnose the bad relay. Thanks to Gerry above for sending a wiring diagram and helping me understand it.

also tagging this.
I just spent a couples days chasing an issue with the Griffiths system AC on my 89. The root cause was my fault. You can read more details on the other AC thread I started.

Henry,
I would not say the cause was your fault. It was who ever before you tossed in that funky AC relay. Enjoy the rest of the warm season rides, Griff
