Converting SC to wind up windows?

Looking at what it takes to convert my SC to roll up windows? Are the parts still made from Porsche to support this? Whats needed and who has done it?

Thanks

Curious as to why you'd want to do this? This is the first time I've come across this question. Backdate project?

I looked into this briefly for my '83 SC. You'll need a pair of manual window regulators which pop up here from time to time. Depending on the year of your car and the channels, I believe you may need to source different windows which can be costly and not always easy to find. Others who have done the conversion can weigh in on this as I'm not 100% sure. I have a pair of regulators with new pivot pins if you decide to go down this route. The weight saving is pretty much nil from what I've read.

Weight, simplicity and added safety as the car is being build for competitive rally. I know the the Club sport had them...

I did it very easily on my '75 by buying the manual winder parts. On my car they bolted right in.

Should be a bolt in job. Just keep an eye out for a pair in the used parts section.

I was told here on this forum that the window crank handles will interfere with the dash. I never confirmed this I just got a an earlier car

I've learned not to make absolutes with these cars as they do vary somewhat, but my 76 has manuals and there is a good 2" between the crank and the dash. Being that they all use the same door and dash I don't see how there could be a problem unless there were variations of the window crank itself?

If weight and simplicity is your goal, eliminate the regulator altogether, go for the leather straps, 911 R style.

I think it was one of the weight savings threads, I'm not sure which but someone weighed the components for each and the manual window system weighs as much or more than the electric.

My 78 ROW has winders, no dash interference.
Confused the heck out of my teenage son his first time in the car, I asked him to roll down the window and he couldn’t find the button! Had no idea how to work the winder.

ha! this comes up at least 3.75 times a year.

if it was as easy as 914efi suggests there'd be an "ultimate" thread on it... my 75 has twister windows, but ive seen the strap R type and they are all kinds of cool if the car does not need to be secured.

Thanks for the info gents. Trying to get some focus on this super slow build. Once I get the body work done, I'll start the cage install.

Just to note that on my '71 tarmac rally car, you could not wind the windows with the doors shut as the crank handle interfered with the vertical bar from the front part of the roll cage.....something to consider......!

I did it on my SC. It was pretty straightforward if you have the right regulators and glass. I described the process in a response on this thread:

Power to manual windows?

The cage is a game changer. The window crank wont have room with a cage installed as others have pointed out.

You would even have a hard time getting your finger on the power switch.
That cage screams leather strap only.
