turn signal - not working with lights on

I have been searching and reading various threads on turn signal issues.

I hesitated to post as I realized I needed to reinstall the side marker light that I had replaced with a little air scoop for the oil cooler to return everything to stock.

so got the right side , side marker light installed and same issue.

with the headlights/parking lights off, the turn signals work fine, left and right.

but if I turn on the parking lights / head lights, the right side turn signal does not work. no flashing at all. but the left side turn signals work fine.

I'll check when at the shop today as I cannot recall if the turn signal lights are on or off in this condition. and need to swap the relay with a known good one.

just found the relay for the fog lights was bad, got them working again.

checked the bulbs to be sure they are correct as I saw a post with the wrong bulb causing issues.

since they work with the other lights off, it would seem that some issue with the lights on is causing this. not the bulbs.

thoughts?

Did you verify the fuse isn't blown? Each side has a different fuse, and there is a different fuse for the flash versus non flash.

understand that they work fine with the parking/headlights off.

and the left side works fine with the lights on. but with lights on the right side just has a solid, low signal light on the dash and no blinking at all.

With the headlights off and the turn signals working, is the flash rate the same left to right? when they are working do the brake lights have any effect on the flash rate? If you just turn the parking lights on but not the headlights, how does that effect function?

think I found the issue, but not the solution so far.

as a good engineer, went about several 'tests' to understand my turn signal behavior. took the lens off both sides for this.

found that with the parking lights/head lights on, the right turn signal light is on but a very low illumination. probably why I did not notice before.

so there appears to be some short between the turn signal and some other wire for that side.

now to start poking at all of the connections going through that plug. I am hoping I do not find the short back up in the wiring harness in the car, but out near the housing.

Try swapping the terminal position on the 2 wires from the running lamp to the signal lamp.
You may have the positive and ground wires swapped.
