74 CIS sitting for 6 years, send out FD for rebuild or try to flush

Hi guys,
Recent financial situation change, so reconsidering rebuilding, cis fd, (WHO ??) rather than evolving to pmo itbs. Sigh.
So, who is the go to guy??
Rough cost?
Send injectors too?

Plan is to redo the tunnel lines, remove, flush tank, replace filter & accumulator.
Previously replaced eng compartment &trans area fool lines.
Is it recommended to replace the plastic injector lines??

Appreciate recommendations, cost estimates, (ever hopefully efi upgrade), cost dependent.
Thanks,
Chris

Current condition depends on how it was prepared for storage and stored. If left on the car with fuel in it there are likely deposits. If the fuel pump on the car is operable you might hook up a battery charger and run fresh fuel with injector cleaner through the fuel distributor (recycling) for several hours and see what you have (drain the tank first). Run fuel through the lines first to clean them, change the fuel filter, then flush system. If this works then clean the WUR and add it into the mix. If that works then add in the injectors. When all done install a fresh fuel filter. If no joy we handle rebuilds.

Thanks Brian, will try your clean and try approach

Thanks for the encouragement and info.
What fuel system cleaner do you like to purge the lprobable trash from the CIS??
As is common, I had no expectation of prolonged "storage", and did not have the foresight to drain and fill with alcohol free gas, or add stabil.
Thanks,
Chris

Larry at CIS Flowtech (Alabama) does all of the Bosch fuel bits...WUR's/Fuel Heads...as far as I know he is the only factory Bosch designated repair in the US.....Bosch Germany sends him the 911 Turbo fuel heads to rebuild.

Most of the WUR sellers middle man his work too I believe.

Reiver,

Guess who rebuilt Jeff’s WUR & FD that were discussed below:

CIS Revisited

The individual who acted as middle man in the above transaction won’t even acknowledge his involvement in Jeff’s misfortune. Yet he posted regularly in this forum.

Tony

tony, nothing against you. im sure you do a great job at rebuilds.

larry is THE man. I have spent lots of time talking to him about CIS and things he is doing with it. such as I just got a lambda head from him for my 930 that he has modified the head to run WITH OUT the FV.
I had also talked with him years ago about a new mod he was working on where he was modifying the slits to give more fuel in the upper RPM range.

My 930 sat for almost three years during a big body project. When the shop doing the mechanical work got it back (well respected air cooled specialist) they couldn’t get it running right and ultimately sent out the FD because evething else had been ruled out. The unit went to Fuel Injection Corp in CA. When back in the car, it started almost too well (like 1/2 crank). No problems and very happy since.

That said, I would not hesitate one second to send anything in this category to Tony. I don’t have any real world experience with Flow Tech.

My 2 cents.

Which fuel system cleaner??

Thanks for the referrals and advice.
I recall a few threads mentioning fuel system cleaners. Tried a few searches but don't see it.
The product had limited availability but got rave reviews. Does BC sound right??
Thanks,
Chris

I've been posting on this forum for 20+ years and working on CIS longer than that, consulting with Larry/CISFT, Jim Williams, BL and others. The CIS Primer Jim created and I maintain is up on our website as a free source of info for all enthusiasts (Porche Enthusiasts Page). We've done a lot of restorations and repairs on CIS 911s' over the years, you run into all sorts of characters and certainly can't please everyone.
Yes BG44K is good stuff. When resurrecting a CIS car that's been sitting a long time you have to start at the fuel tank and work your way to the injectors, flushing everything in sections along the way. This includes the fuel lines themselves. The lines will also contain deposits that have to be flushed out. It is time consuming but if you do not do this slowly and methodically the deposits can break loose and clog your freshly revitalized or rebuilt fuel distributor, WUR and injectors.

Thanks Guys, got some coming.

Thanks Guys, It looks like the next step is to get all of the old fuel out of the car, clean the tank, replace old fuel hoses, including filler rubber lines to tank & return lines.
Does the accumulator usually clean up ok or is it better to replace it with the filter change??
I need to do a bit more research on tank cleaning. Is there a tipping point where it just makes sense to buy a new one from our host???
I've moved the pump to the front but not yet installed a "Pre filter" for the pump protection. Any suggestions?? I've read a 10 micron, in line filter might be a good choice.
Thanks for the help,
chris
