Losing a rat's nest, adding a shift knob

My 911 is not a show car. I've been tracking it for 19 years and I'm not at all hesitant about drilling into it or running an extra wire or two to develop the car and make it quicker. But I recently decided to make the jump from my aging Race-Technology data logger to Aim's Solo2 DL and a SmartyCam. But the two systems were overlapping while I worked out the new model's kinks -- and, well, I had one of those days where I looked at it and just went 'ick.'

So, I took out the old data logger... and also took out the leather shift boot and the SC/Carrera console. I figure I don't need to be monitoring cylinder heat temperatures or transmission temps -- which is what the console had been there for.

The good news was that I was able to pull 8.6 pounds of stuff out of the car.

Lighter. Simpler. And it looks better, too.

Best of all is the 917-style shift knob by Dave Mason on this board, who made one for me with the German autobahn's 'no speed limit' graphic.

You really can cleanup your act, while losing weight and being trendy. It’s almost like going to therapy and discovering your real self. Be careful or you might spawn followers or worse yet a selfie thread Nice work Jack, looks good.

Looks great. I've got to swap in one of Dave's shift knobs that's been sitting on my shelf for the past month or so. (Just as soon as I figure out how to take off the original one without destroying it.)

Looking great. I too love the console’less open looks of the old 911’s. I have one each way, and think the car looks cleaner, and bigger in side without it.

Nice work. You are the kind of owner I appreciate--you drive the whee out of your car. I wish more people did so. The world would be a better place.

Love the console-less look. That was one of the first things I did to my car.

Ah, very good. Less is more.

Just to be annoying; how about some leather conditioner on those seats.
