What are you doing in the fuel system? I'm redoing my CIS stuff right now, so stay tuned.

TxGerman 11-16-2020 08:08 AM

I pulled my tank, stripping/refinishing (not fun at all), replacing all hoses, weather seal, level sender & gasket (this is what started the whole project), fuel pump, accumulator, filter, clamps, etc. I am not replacing the tunnel lines right now, but I will come back to do those at a later time (didn't have the parts or the time right now for that).

Focker, resized but they might not update in your cache, so do a harder refresh in your browser, should be a lot smaller. Also... why does this forum software not resize photos....

Thanks, gives a much better perspective now. Looks like it is all coming together pretty well.

Have you considered painting the airbox charcoal to match the fan shroud?

ADDvanced 11-16-2020 03:19 PM

I don't have great experience painting things like ABS, so it's just going to stay black. Every time I've painted plastic, no matter how I prep it, it always looks like crap a year later. The shroud was different as it was fiberglass, but we will see how it'll hold up. I scuffed it and soaked in brake cleaner, so it should bond. "should". lol.

More progress!

Fan, Alternator, Strap, Engine Shroud, Oil Cooler Duct, and the backdated heat ducts. Which fit like absolute ****! I don't know how these are supposed to work with any car that has carrera tensioners. The really unfortunate thing is since the engine was apart when I had everything powdercoated, I'm having to tweak this stuff AFTER it's been powdercoated.... yayyyy.

Okay, more updates. Pretty in depth repair on my airbox, which was blown. Combination of new fasteners, adhesive, and pop off valve, should be good to go!

Also shows pretty in depth tear down:

TxGerman 12-05-2020 08:10 AM

Good update, this makes me realize I should probably inspect my airbox (even though I have the pop-off valve) just to make sure there weren't any shortcuts taken by one of the PO's! Thanks for sharing.

ADDvanced 12-12-2020 07:55 AM

Ok, update, but I gotta say this part was worse than everything else so far. The CIS rebuild.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LNHasTH92Bg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I go through how to
rebuild the intake runners, new fuel injector inserts/o rings, new boots/sleeves
how to install them on the airbox and keep them level
Resealing the cold start valve
Cleaning and reassembling the air meter & throttle body
EGR delete
Spark plug wires/routing, ignition coil installation
Airbox supports and modifications
Install WUR, AAR
ALL NEW hoses
Vacuum line routing
Now that I've done it, it seems straightforward; I definitely learned a lot doing this, but before I did it the vacuum hose routing was sort of a nightmare, since my car has the EGR system removed, it wasn't matching up with the factory diagrams. I wound up finding an image on here that helped immensely....

So here's the kicker: After installing all this to the engine, I remembered that when I used the engine hoist to lift it off the ground onto the engine stand, I removed the intake/fuel system.... so... unless I come up with a creative way of getting this back onto the ground, I might have to take all this **** back OFF, install the engine leveler, lift it off the stand, place it on the ground, then reinstall it. I really don't want to do that... so... if anyone has any ideas, I am all ears.

Just get a few friends to help lift it off the stand

I actually put mine on and off the stand by myself- although it was crazy and bordering on stupid.

I built a wooden base that got my motorcycle jack high enough to get the engine on and off the stand. I first lifted the engine as high as it would go, then put 4 jack stands under the exhaust, then put the base and jack under the engine and lifted it the rest of the way and vice versa.

Here’s a couple pictures.

Good start, but install some large caster wheels under that platform, high enough to roll the floor jack underneath to raise and support the engine.

Note: noticed you have a 3-wheel stand. My suggestion works better using a 4-wheel stand that allows space below the engine area. Two linebacker-type helpers should be able to separate the engine from the yoke and transfer to your install platform.

Thanks for the ideas! Definitely looks like I'm going to have to get creative. Also... when installing, exhaust on or off?

Exhaust on makes it easier- flat bottom and easier to install while on the stand. I think I put the muffler on once the engine was in the car though.

Either way. With exhaust installed, there's a flatter bottom profile. Without heat exchangers, the lift weight is reduced. Position wood blocks to keep engine/drivetrain level.

Backflushed my CIS Injectors, with varying success!

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6DKHeoV0hPE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Has anyone else tried this before? How did it go? I tried to follow the procedure shown in another thread and it sort of worked, I guess?

gsxrken 12-15-2020 11:36 AM

BTDT. You may find you can fill the injector with the cleaning fluid and use a rubber tipped air nozzle with the air regulated down to your normal warm control pressure. This will unseat the pintle, which your aerosol can may not be. You see them mist, with mine some were circular, some were crescent shaped.
I wasn’t happy with the uniformity across the six and also bought new ones. I tested my new ones, which I didn’t see you do, and they all misted the solution in a finer manner than the best of the old ones.
For completeness, the “injectors in the jars” test to verify the fuel pump delivery and equally important the balance of the cis fuel distributor delivery, would have been ideal. Having staked and installed the injectors already, I could see why you’d be reluctant at this point to rewind.
Nice work and good video production as usual.

ADDvanced 12-15-2020 03:16 PM

Yeah it would have been cool to try that, but to be honest I'm sort of rushing at this point. I bought a 70 Jaguar XJ6 5spd project, and I'd really like to get it into my garage before all the salt/snow. Looks like that might not happen... oh well. Can take more time with the rest of the build now, I guess.

Finishing up the heat backdate, some of this footage is from previous episodes, but I wanted to put it all in one video so people could learn about backdating their heat, all in one video:

Putting the engine tin on today and trying to get it off the engine stand and onto the ground.* *Fuel lines this weekend... getting close gentlemen!

Well, another update. Sorta.
