Pedal Installation Video. This was awful. I started a whole thread about it. I don't ever want to do it again; everything you did to make it easier to install made it harder to install; the whole mechanism wanted to break one of my fingers while trying to hook up the clevis pin because of that giant spring; I found it easier to install the spring AFTER the clevis pin. Other people somehow have the magic ability to have that giant spring holding the clutch arm the farthest possible distance away from the clutch cable, and can somehow hook that up. I can't.
This was the worst job I've done on the car so far, it took me many, many, many hours. I was angry and uncomfortable the entire time. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-5YPCcMuP9g" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
The series of thick washers on the spring made it considerably easier to install.

Great job, hope I won't have to do it...
|
That is so funny, man - no thanks!

Yeah, that was no fun. Next video is a quick one on master cylinder replacement, I used a cheap $60 MC instead of a $650+ Porsche part:

Thanks guys!
Updates: I am approaching 500 miles already, and the leaves haven't even popped yet. I've been dailying the car since I got it running, and overall it's been amazing to drive this thing again. The exhaust sounds epic once you get into it, and I find myself taking the long ways home whenever I take it anywhere. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682895095.jpg Sushi night; place is 8 minutes away but it takes me 20 minutes each way with a bunch of backroads :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682895095.jpg Been taking it to work and back, that's about 60 miles round trip, sometimes 70-80 if I need to go to some other areas, and she cruises great on the highway. Sometimes getting a slight vibration on the steering wheel, sometimes not, going to try to get my wheels rebalanced and see if it goes away. Exhaust is surprisingly tame on the highway, the wind noise from the burnt up targa seals is much louder than the engine. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682895060.jpg Lake Winnebago pic over lunch http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682895060.jpg Chillin. Anybody want to buy some 5x114.3 wheels lol? Next on the list: - Need to change the fluid in my 915; currently running swepco and not real impressed with it. Been researching on the forum but most of the threads are from 15+ years ago, when it was only $45-50 per jug. IDK if you've checked lately but it's now $100/jug, which would be fine if I was actually satisfied with the shifting, but I'm not. It's not the trans, Accumoto did a wonderful job and it shifts okay as long as I'm very intentional and slower with it, but ... I'm just not sure I'm feeling Swepcos 100% price hike in the past couple years; corporate profits are at an all time high while 'nobody wants to work' and 'wages haven't moved', know what I'm getting at? So if anyone has suggestions OTHER than swepco, I'm listening. - Still have a slight idle hang when coming to a stop, eventually the idle settles at 950 but for about 10-15 seconds it's at around 1300ish. Need to check pressures but haven't gotten around to it yet. - Rear bumper stuff; not sure what I'm doing yet, but temporarily mounting the rear bumper let me know the whole exhaust system was tweaked from the impact that Mark Jung from MFIWorks did not disclose when he sold them to me, and now the whole thing sits crooked. This is annoying as one exhaust tip is a full 1" lower than the other, and bending the headers is impossible, so I'm going to cut off one of the tips and have it welded to match the lower one, then it will at least not look stupid next to the bumper. - I love love love the aluminum pressure plate Sachs performance clutch kit; 8lbs less rotating mass is awesome while downshifting, but fellas..... I cannot figure out how to drive this car from a stand still very smoothly. The lack of mass has really made pulling away smoothly more challenging; I'm sure I'll get better but right now I alternate between a higher rpm slower takeoff, or if I let it off too abruptly, it bogs and almost stalls. I'm sure I'll get better in time but it's sort of embarassing since everyone is staring at this thing whenever I'm driving it. - That said, jeez, thing is absolutely snapping necks with the exhaust. Downshifting coming into town produces a nice backfire/burble that sounds sick. Children wave their hands and scream and yell when they see me driving around, people stop what they're doing and stare, at least in this part of the country, people sort of freak out when they see it, which I am not used to. A few years ago I saw 2 sets of boobs against the glass of some chicks packed into a station wagon lol. Overall, super stoked to have it back on the road. |
I had the same initial experience with the Sachs ultralight clutch kit. You’ll get used to it, it just takes time. Good news is that you “have” to log more 911 miles [emoji1787]
Man, the only attention my 911 gets is from teenage boys and police…. |
Sounds like you are down at least one to 1.5 cylinders
The light clutch and flywheel have nothing to do with it . Its worth a check Ian |

Yep, one of your cylinders is not firing well, spark or fuel, and the other is just dead .
check them all Ian |

All the injectors are brand new. Why are you guys saying this? Sound, or just my comment about starting from a stop?
|
Sound. It should have a very even hum. Having new fuel injectors "probably" ensures you have good spray patterns, but does not ensure that the fuel amount is even. In all your work, did you do a fuel delivery test to all the injectors at the same time? If not, do so to make are you are getting even fuel delivery.

small update, got my rockers back on with the rubber strip, through together this quick video w tips, since I struggled with it for a while:

@Tom - Curious how this works? Point the IR thermometer to the top of the heat exchanger ports like in the foto? Is the idea that the non-firing or mis-firing cylinder will read a lower temp?
@ADDvanced - did you happen to check? What was result? Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1685119040.jpg Quote:

Yes, exactly. You can pick an inexpensive IR point-n-shoot thermometer at Harbor Freight for around $20. They're really handy.

I have one but guys, I've put 1000+ miles on this car, and it pulls pretty good. I don't think it's down a cylinder. I'll check, I mean.... would be cool if it was 10% faster, sure! :D
