What has been your favorite upgrade?
Just sitting here wondering what your favorite upgrade has been, that one thing that just makes you smile. Maybe a shifter, or an exhaust, maybe just a little sticker...
I love my new DAS roll bar in safety orange, and my Luftgekult badge to match... makes me giggle. I hope to add a bopping and burbbleing GT3 M&K exhaust n the spring... my 2in 1 out just isn't obnoxious enough for me. ![]() |

SW chip. Only mod I've done that has had no tradeoffs, only improvements.

I think on a day to day basis, my favourite is the WEVO shifter. It's not one of those things that's in your face, and it's been there a few years so I've become used to it, but its also something that gets use every drive. It adds so much precision to the shift action.
Another favourite is having a spare airbox lid with the outside portion cut off, leaving only the rim that clamps the filter in place. When driving, it makes for a great induction growl that's not too loud, but brings a silly, little kid smile to my face. It sounds like it adds at least 20 horsepower, but in actuality, probably loses me a couple. Oh, well, it sounds cool. ![]()

I bought my 85 911 back in 1995. Since then I have done all the "fixes" needed by most 911s. The suspension rubber bushings, new shocks and 21 and 27 MM T-bars, turbo tie rods and so on. It made a nice improvement and the steering is laser pointer accurate.
The upgrade to 17 inch Euromeisters and the tires are now 225-50-17 front and 255-40-17 rear, and summer performance tires. Just an order of magnitude more cornering and stopping grip. My butt dyno does not notice a difference in acceleration, but logic says it must be there. I upgraded my 5th gear to a gear from a 73 911. It is the .724 (29:21). That drops the revs in 5th for my long road trips. More gas mileage, and more engine life. There is a bit of a gap compared to stock. At 50 to 60 4th gear is needs. I have to be above 60 to have 5th be useful. I really think it is the perfect setup for highway long hauls that I do almost every year. I added a fan to the front oil cooler. Just a manual switch and the fan comes on. It helps keep oil temps down for sure. The Steve Wong chip is a nice upgrade. I like my LED brake lights as well. With no hesitation or qualms or doubts, the AC upgrade to a 4 condenser system is the best improvement. It allows me to have my wife ride along on a road trip to all of the New England states, up into Canada, or out to California, and she even came along to Savannah, GA in August. That was brutal hot and one day at lunch time she actually asked me to turn the temperature UP because she was cold, while driving in Savanna Ga in August. I waited until we got out at our destination to do a happy dance. I recently put in the upgraded blower motor for Griffiths and the variable speed fan controller, so I have any speed I want and it has a LED to tell me when the compressor cycles off. On my recent trip to Key West, after hours of driving on the highway in 95+ heat the compressor does indeed cycle off when it has hit the maximum cold saturation to avoid freeze up. It kept my brother and I totally comfortable in the south Florida heat of July. I used to avoid driving my 911 in the HOT summer months, and that was just nuts. Now I don't even care if the weather is 100+, I can drive my toy and come home comfortable.

My old school 3.2 conversion with SSIs. With something like 60 more horses and lb/ft of torque in the light S chassis, the car moves along nicely.

SW chip. It makes the powerband so much more usable in these cars.

steering wheel spacer to improve positioning closer
Setup of pedal set for proper Heel/Toe suspension refresh. Don't really need much more in a stock car.

On my 77S, definitely the ITB/EFI upgrade, the car is transformed. Brakes and suspension play a nice supporting role.

Hands down getting rid of the OEM Bosch CDI.
I installed a great CDI and coil from Daytona-Sensors with a soft rev limiter, data gathering and so much more. My 1973 2.7 MFI car just runs great with this CDI installed. I kept the Bosch to put on display in the garage. I also installed a Pertronics to eliminate the points. This is a great upgrade in a points equipped car.....and for $100!!! You now have options in cases that look like the Bosch CDI Parts Klassic and Classic Retrofit [pricey] these are better than permatune and ugly old red China made MSD.

Sunroof delete. I love looking at the seamless roof-line and from a tall guy perspective, it's completely changed the driving experience for the better.

Mitch Leland steering wheel bushing took all the slop out of my steering wheel. Best thing I have done on the car. A cheap easy upgrade.
