Who is running under 2000lbs in stsreet trim?

I was just wondering who here is running a street car under 2000lbs. I've gone through several of the weight reduction threads.

Wondering where people have found the line to be for weight reduction on a street car.

I'm currently at 2450ish, with sport seats, big batt, and steel front and rear bumpers, SSI's and backdate heat, no center con or back seats.

Thinking I can drop another 200lbs fairly easy with FG bumpers, seats, and a small batt. after that the hill gets steeper. to get from 2200 to 1900 must take the big steps I imagine.

My all steel '73 with a 3.2 w/ George's headers and original M&K muffler, no interior whatsoever other than a dash and fixed-back Momo driver seat weighed in at 2174 lb.

Replacing hood, bumpers, fenders and decklid fiberglass/carbon fiber would get you below 2000.

With a Steve Wong chip specific to the headers and muffler, this car is/was (off the road for now) the most fun 911 I've ever driven. The low low weight and more than ample power made it nimble, tossable and very very quick. So fun to drive the hell out of this car.

Yea, to be below 2000 #s. Yea, that was my goal.

You would have to have a bare bones car to achieve that IMO. My car is ~ 2150 with a full tank, but with Lots of fiberglass etc. Read my garage for all the details.

I am at 2300 with full tank in an '83 SC Euro...glass f/r bumpers and valance...mucho deleted to include sun roof.
The only thing left to change out would be body panels (doors/frunk) as the duck is glass too....thinner glass or plexi…
I may take the window motors out and go to plexi side glass in the doors....with a strap. That's about as far as I'll go tho.

it all depends on how many $$ you want to spend per lb. of wt. removal...

consider the unit body is quite heavy by modern stds. - ~~640, 680 lb.

the engine is heavy by modern stds. ... 400 lbs. or more; Mg case, carbs

add the trans. (90 for 901/911) + suspension (F 85 + R 130 incl. CVs & axles) + brake rotors (70 for 4 rotors with Wilwood Superlight calipers) + wheels & tires (4 * 35)

= 1,600 lb

you need gas and a gas tank; oil and an oil tank (maybe a nice CF one)

you need bolts * nuts for holding it all together

then you need a place to sit (or two of them)

we are already at 1,700 lbs. or more - need hood, trunk lid, spoilers...

So....

CF unit body - redesigned for the different material

ceramic brake rotors?

CF wheels?

use CAD/CAE to save 5 lbs.. off the crankshaft (P AG did in the 963)

my 1973 is at 2170 with carbon fiber hood, RS glass bumpers, Bursch moffler, Recaro Seats, RS carpets and door panels no console.

2.7 engine with MFI 2each Miata gel AGM batteries.

Still has the OEM sunroof. Stock glass and body sheet metal thickness.

I think it is light emough.

2,000 lbs is usually an early (1960s to early 1970s) and a almost gutted of any real interior, thin glass or even plexiglass in the side and rear windows. Not a 911 your wife will want to ride in.

My 911 is a fat pig in that race at 2,741 lbs on the corner balancer. But I have AC that keeps me cool in hot weather, and a heater that is kick butt in zero degree cold. Full carpet, and mats. Electric seat, and working windshield and headlight squirters for driving in the rain.

You might get an SC to 2,000 ponds with enough money and effort. If that is your goal for the perfect 911, go for it and have fun, and dive it a lot.

I'm at 2210 with half tank of fuel in my 72. Fiberglass hood and ducktail, one battery in the smugglers box, no spare tire, boxes removed from door panels, Recaro seats, 3.0L engine adds a few lbs over the 2.7L but cheaper to get power out of, aluminum trailing arms and 10lb M&K muffler.

Yea, I was thinking that the jump from 2200lbs to 2000 is a pretty big step. I feel like I can get to 2250ish without a ton of effort. I don't think that I would need FG hood/fenders.

I think with FG bumpers, seats, small batt, and a few lil bits I should drop 200lbs give or take.

some notable light wt. cars:

Grant G's "Carbon Copy" - 1,890 lbs.

Jim Calzia's purple car - 1,830 wet

no info on how much fuel was in the cars, whether they carried a spare tire (unlikely) or tools

the 911R was 1,765 according to Morse for the prototypes; 1810 lbs. w/o fuel; 1900 lbs. in rally trim – Ludvigsen, p. 456

Black Booty is not light at all

Retro Rocket red RSR Clone – 1,750 lbs (794 kg) with 962 engine and “upside down” 935 turbo trans., making it the lightest known clone – even lighter than a 911 R – even though it has larger fenders and a roll cage; article in Panorama, Dec. 2004, but few details; said to be this car: Gunnar Racing

Fun calculator to play with:
https://www.carspecs.us/calculator/0-60

0-60 with 180hp at 2600 lbs= 6.2s (stock 78-79SC)
0-60 with 204hp at 2600 lbs= 5.6s (stock 81-83SC)
0-60 with 220hp at 2200 lbs= 4.7s (light SC, 3.2SS motor)
Drop another 200 lbs and it gets to 4.3s...

So, once you have reached 220hp, you can gain 0.2s for each 100lbs lost on the 0-60 acceleration.
Lose 50 lbs yourself and that is 0.1s gained on acceleration.

I’m at 2100 but that’s with 20 gallons of fuel and the 964 rear deck lid and full glass. I’m going to try and lose some more somehow.

0-60 lol I would never do that to my poor 915, would scatter itself all over the road with only 180hp...

I recall seeing an article, years ago, in Panorama about a street car weighing well under 200#. Low 18's, according to my unreliable recollection.

Buy a 914. Huge weight advantage from the start. A 914-6 is about 2200 with all steel body panels.
