Intense window cleaner.
Trying to service/understand this system which is not
on the window sticker option list, and never used. As per the attached pic of the my owner's manual, it would appear that the intense washer should activate the secondary washers & wipers by just pressing the switch located under the gauges. When I press the switch "nothing". The pump works when voltage is applied at the pump. ![]()

I see the same thing. Maybe the intense fluid reservoir is clogged.

I think you have to have the lights on for the switch to work..

Maybe it's broken.

It is a separate pump from the windshield pump. At least on my 85 it is. It is really hard to get to to replace. Up behind the bumper and washer bottle.

Pump.
The intensive washer pump is appended to the water
reservoir located near the driver's side front strut. ![]() ^^^^^ Easy access. Gerry

![]() ^^^^^ So, this is a two step process. 1. Press the switch. 2. Then, turn on the wipers. Right? Gerry

Gerry, yes that's right.
Some of the posters apparently have mistaken the intensive washer system with the headlight washer system. Lights aren't required to be on to use the intensive system. If the pump will activate when fed 12V directly, but not operate when the switch is pressed, then either the switch is faulty or there's an issue with the wiring. |

I don't know this system, but the manual above describes a time limiting relay (guessing like a seat belt warning light timer). That relay check out? I would assume, like the seat belt light, if that relay is shot or missing, no go.
For the switch - I would think you could test to see if switch is bad by popping the clock out, pop the switch out from behind and direct connect/touch the wires..

My car came with the option but the plumbing had been removed by a previous owner. I restored mine last year. Just used the PET guide to order the parts and reconstruct. New parts are available from Pelican/Suncoast. I ordered several bottles of fluid from my local dealer for about $10/bottle. Part number is 000-044-000-93. Works nicely. Be sure your reservoir cap has a good rubber seal. The fluid will evaporate from the reservoir over a day or two if you leave the cap off or have a dried out rubber seal. As mentioned, you don't need the lights to be on.

Hi Gerry,
Is this absent from your '86 schematic? I do not have the option in the car, but it is shown on my '87 vintage factory schematic. (Zn A15 to C16) There is a power tie between the relay and the wiper motor slip-ring, but I am not sure who is powering whom. The relay is more like a solid state Porsche controller, where the logic isn't readily apparent to me. pls let me know if you need a copy. Dan

Intensive windshield washer-How it works.
![]() ^^^^^ The 12V for both windshield washer system pumps is provided by fuse #3 block #1. The normal windshield washer relay also has a 12V source from fuse #7 block #2. This source is only for the active/timing circuits, and not the pumps. When the Intense windshield washer system switch is pressed, 12V is passed onto the relay circuitry which closes the relay putting 12V on the pump. So, basically each system requires a low current (for the relay circuits), and, a high current for the pumps. Gerry
