Installing a 915 on a 69’ 912

Hi,

Any tip / advice on how to install a 915 on a 1969my 912 ?

You have a push clutch, so the only 915 that will relate to that is a 76 912e one. May still have some t/o bearing interface issues, never tried it.

And even with that, the 923 trans from the 912E will not work with 915 running gear. You need a VW input shaft and clutch/flywheel package for 215 mm components.

The 912e trans has a vw size mainshaft.

I explained to my customer all the pro’s and con’s for doing that and now we are back in the market for a 1969 5speed 901.

There is a rebuilt 901/13 in the classifieds right now. Correct with 6:29 CWP.

Worth a look.

I’m going to assume the reason his client thinks he wants a 915 is they are adding power and need strength. The 6:29 (stock for a 69 912, but not stock for the 901/13) is weaker than the standard 7:31. Porsche used them for hill climbing and rally back in period and would toss them after one race weekend. I would be looking for just a plain stock 901/13 and then strengthen it with a new bearing plate and side cover.
