EGR Delete on '79 SC (Help Needed!)

Hi everyone,

I will be installing SSIs soon and as I have the CIS out I want to do a full EGR delete as the SSIs will not accommodate the downpipes from the EGR. I'd like to remove the unit in full and cannot find a thread to do so using search here.

Can I simply remove the EGR, cap the 2 vacuum lines and also somehow cap the larger line that meets at the base of the air box?

If so does anyone know what I could use to cap it at the base?

Cap the vacuum lines with rubber caps made to do so.
Then take the pipe fitting to Canadian tire or others and match up the threads for a plug on the airbox.
Or find someone local with a blow airbox that will give you the plug that comes standard on non-EGR Cars.

Belmetric is a good source for both the vac plugs and EGR plug (sorry, I dont know the size).

There's no sensor or CEL to trigger so this should require nothing more than removing the tubes and plugging the holes.

It looks like the aluminum vacuum tube for the AAR & AAV shown in your picture has some serious abrasion. This will be your chance to patch that section with some JBWeld before putting the CIS unit back.

get a plastic plug of some sort from the hardware store and JB weld it inside.

no NASA fix.

For the plug on the air box I have just found that an oil drain plug is the perfect fit with a crush washer!!

Tony is right about those tubes. I had a hole developing in mine that was about 1/4" in dia that had the material worn down to about the thickness of aluminum foil. It may have partly to blame for a start/run issue Tony helped me solve. I took a curved piece from a mop handle and JB welded it into place over the hole.

Quick update on this - I discovered that the drain bolt for the oil sump plate is a perfect fit plug the hole in the airbox left by removal of the EGR!

(yes I know it's not fully in - just showing it fits. I used a crush washer and tightened by hand +1/8 turn.)
