Engine serial number help / 3.1?
Just purchased a 79 ROW, highly optioned and came across a odd serial number and some weird parts I was not familiar with

You would really need the options list from the car to be sure. Hard to say just from the engine. It could be original or it could be a conversion.

It is not likely that the conversion, that was reportedly.....a dealer "secret" option, would be listed in the original options list. Based on the little research i've done....the cases were stamped with the 3.1...and the Turbo cylinders were used,,,these would be the external,visual clues that you have a 3.1...as mentioned in the Excellence article........

It’s got the same *3.1* stamp shown on other 3.1L engines. Nice find!

Post a pic of the fuel distributor, it should have a Bosch part number and be different from other ROW 911’s too.

fins?
The turbo cylinders, reportedly used for the 3.0-3.1 were only partially finned vs. the fully finned 3.0 cylinders.
