I was going to have an engine harness made by another forum user but I thought I would give it a shot myself before coughing up the cash. Was a lot simpler than I thought it would be, as I got to delete all of the CIS wiring.

I wrapped it in black braided cloth and everything is cleaned up with shrink tube. Also started on making new 6an fuel lines for the engine bay. This weeks projects is making a bracket for under the drivers seat to mount the twin MSD boxes. A lot of tedious jobs before the engine goes back in.

MSD boxes mounted under the drivers seat. Yes they are flipped over with the seat installed. Planning on putting the MSD coils behind the plastic engine cover on the left hand side. This will clean up the engine bay a little bit. Ordered the oil catch tank from ST Classics. Slowly coming together. Little project here and there till my exhaust comes in from RarelyL8

I also learned that the bottom plug wire holders won't fit with turbo valve covers unless you machine away some of the webbing. A little too late as I already had them cerakoted. I ordered longer studs from mcmasters and plan to take out the existing and put in longer studs with different nuts to have them work. Waiting on those and some other rsr plug wire loops from PM to clean up the wires. Full engine shots to come after its cleaned up!

Yes.. have dealt with that using an end mill in a drill press, and just machined enough away for the hold downs to work.. with the holders in place, you can hardly notice the uncoated part... all hand work...

If they weren't cerakoted I would machine off the webbing, but since they're cerakoted I have a plan with a longer stud and some wave washers.

Pulled the standard studs and replaced them with 60mm studs. This gives enough thread engagement to sandwich the retainer between 2 wave washers and an additional nut on top. Not the prettiest but it gets the job done. Holds the plug wire on snug.

Really didn’t have any other choice as it’s too late to machine away some webbing on valve covers. Lesson learned for the next engine.

If you mount the retainers on the top studs (rather than the bottom studs), they will fit properly. No extra grinding or stud replacement required.

Tried it, doesn’t work. Trust me.

Strange

but, it worked on my engine! Here's a picture:

Both of our photos are of the right hand bank and we are using the same exact studs. I am not using the bottom studs like you commented. If you look closely at my retainers you will see for yourself if you tried to put them under the first bolt that that just won’t lay flat and the webbing interferes.

Great work.

I drilled 22mm holes in the side tin and added rubber grommets to run the bottom plugs wires through on both sides. Tossed the alternator in, wiring is all connected, and the rest of the engine tin. Last thing i’m waiting for is the exhaust from rarelyl8. Was told end of February it would be done so hoping any week now.

I have the st classics oil catch tank showing up Tuesday. This week i’ll finish up all of the engine bay prep and mount the coils. Finally coming together!

While the engine is still out I'm working on the whole suspension refresh. The rear end is done and I plan to start on the front after I find a ball joint tool for cheap. Going to send out the spindles to ER for some work. Dropped off some sport seat cores and some script fabric off at the shop to get redone. Will be a whole new car when finished.

Front
22 hollow torsion bars
19mm raised spindles (going 15" Fuchs), gusseted, and bumper steer kit
Bilstien sport struts revalved for the t bar
Poly Bronze a arm bushings
Monoball strut mount
Eibach sway bar

Rear
29mm hollow t bars
ER spring plates
Poly Bronze spring plate bushings
Monoball trailing arm bushings
Revalved sport struts for the t bar
Eibach sway bar

15x7/8 test fit. Ordering 52mm bull studs and open ended lug nuts to run with these.

Great build, I look forward to all your updates!

I'm curious if you don't mind sharing...

Where did you get your Ra checked?
Can you share any info about the JBR valve springs and retainers? I've reached out to them about these and got no answer...

I’m lucky enough to have a buddy that works at a lab with a profilometer. I shipped all the cylinders to WI and back to have him measure them.

I bought my whole spring set up from Mike Bruns. He had an extra new set laying around. Reach out to EBS and see if you can purchase the springs there or get info about them. I went the JBR route because I didn’t want to run TI retainers on a street car as they wear too fast.

Seats were redone by MST in Santa Ana. $1,600 for labor and materials. Great price for genuine leather. Turned them around in 2 weeks.

They turned out so great I brought him my rear seats to match the script inserts. Really excited to have these in the car.
