What do you like the most about your 911?

I just drove around town to do a few errands, and people everywhere I stop come over to
ask something about my car. Three different people today.

It's not a dark gray Audi four door or a black 3 series BMW.

I like being different. Not too many green Targas like mine around.

The Clock. The feedback it gives you of the time is just so very...analog.

I still get goo-goo eyes when I see one on the street (I saw a 78-79 SC coupe in the Gold Coast yesterday), and I've owned one for years now. I don't think I can say that about any other car.

The little “click” sound one of my gauges makes at random times with no explanation always gives me a smile.

Mine does that as well...

The sound of the door when you sit in the drivers seat, and the smell of old leather! It is like driving my Rawlings mitt from 8th grade. It evokes emotional memories and thoughts every time.

The most unique thing about a 911 is the feel of the steering wheel, it feels alive, undulating in you hands while just tooling along, this is somewhat damped the newer the car but still there till the 964s ended it.

Accurate. My girlfriend would concur. Everytime she get's in the car on first start-up, I catch her having that melty looking face and enjoying a deep breath of what I like to call "the aroma of awesome".

1. It's been a humbling experience to own a 42 year old car that needed soo much attention and is so sought after by so many. I feel very fortunate to be the caretaker of arguably the best platform ever created....

2. The journey, the education, and the friendships it has aided in developing along my journey of a 9 year long "rolling restoration"

3. The fact that it is 100% capable in performing up to the standards of modern performance cars (this occurs in Mexico )

4. That it attracts all kind of people that either have a story or are just generally interested in a cool old Poorsh. Great conversations!

5. The latest... With aggressively spec'd and timed cams, she lopes/chops/and lumps. Those old muscle car types who used to snob her, come running to ask a million questions about "what the heck is in there!? I've never heard a Poorsh make noise like this!"

I like that the 911 taught me car control and how to left foot brake.
No nannies and a 915 that still requires skill to shift correctly.
20 years with a 3.6 and a 915 on the street and track with no driver induced damages.
It seems automatic/easy to zip around in a 911 until your friend asks to drive it and attempts to shift the 915 from 5th to 2nd instead of 4th while coasting down an off ramp.
Miss my blue car but not the Porsche clubs.

964 has similar wt. bias, so a big factor must be the wider tires (?)

or is it the fore/aft compliance of the suspension arms in the 964?

It's the scrub radius.
The 964 runs a ton of offset to make negative SR whereas the earlier 911s have lower offset wheels and significantly more SR.

For me, it's the "whole package" - all the feels / sounds / smells / feedback / people / adventures / experiences - that come out every single time I use the car or take it somewhere.

The biggest factor that makes the steering come alive is the large scrub radius I don't know of a single other car that has one as latge from the factory, I'm sure they are there somewhere.

911 w/ 7ET23.3 front wheels has a s/r of 52.4

s/r of a 964 w/ 7s is 0

s/r of a 993 w/ 7s is -10
the bigger s/t in either direction the more feedback to the steering wheel

ABS equipped cars have to have s/r 0 to some neg. value

MacPherson strut cars usually have a s/r < 0

isn't a + s/r mainly to help with parking on cars w/o power steering?
