What do you like the most about your 911?

I like that it is adjustable from the factory.

No coilovers required to dial in ride height.
No aftermarket parts required to dial in pedal position.
The car was intended to be tailored to the driver.

Love the look, stance.

Analog feel....no computers. drives like a go kart. Wonderful sound. MFI responsiveness, total manual cold start...big brakes, lots of tire, light weight [2170 lbs].

At 230hp my 86 feels like a fast VW with marginal AC.

1. What I like the most is the 911 on track taught me car control.
2. Learned how to left brake in the 911.

That experience helped me when I went on to faster cars.

I like those same things in a sports car.
So after years of 911 track time it was an easy jump to late 80s early 90s IMSA GTO spec race cars.

It is mine, and paid for since the last millennium. The overall looks and driving experience.
No one had a poster of a Hyundai on the wall as a kid. Lots of 911s on posters.
I have done several 5,000 mile road trips and it ran just like a Porsche. My wife's friends are always amazed that I take a 1985 model car on road trips to far reaches of the USA. After a 12 hour day, I get out ready to do it again the next day.





Even the way it smells.

It's a pretty exclusive club. Most of the owners have sought these cars out and are a pretty decent bunch. When people ask questions, I usually answer, "yeah, it's a lot of fun," and let it go at that. They're happy in their Camry's. I'm happy with a quirky, smelly, bumpy, rolling piece of artwork, who's bloodline goes back 50 years to all day, all night 225mph pulls on the Mulsanne.

It's therapeutic.

I tore it apart, I rebuilt it. Now, I drive it like it owes me money!

I had a daily 11second 69 Beetle, it was much quicker and much more thrilling to navigate. It was built to handle as well as cruise, miss it every day.

The 911 is different, more refined, not more hi-tech. More controllable above 120 where aero left the Beetle.....adrenaline and guardian angels were hard at work when 140 was unleashed in the Bug.

So for me, it's good therapy. It reminds me of all the VDubs I've built. It pleases me to just cruise as well as wring it out and wish for a 6th gear to feed the need.

A car that does it all, sitting still all the way to full tilt. Feels good all around.

I love the fact that these cars were made to be driven. A lot and hard. At over 160k with no engine work other than valve adjustments, I don't think twice about using WOT or redline in my 86 Targa. Aren't too many other sports cars that have the longevity of a 911. I also love that "bank vault" feel when you close the doors.

The engine - a true mechanical engineering art form. The design, sound, and smell are all unique and very special to this car. The fact that large amounts of power can be extracted from this air-cooled, relatively small displacement engine, and achieved with high reliability, is truly an amazing accomplishment.

Well I've had my 72 twenty-two years and 245,000 miles. When I first got it I drove 104 miles round trip to work all year long. It always did better when being driven. Now after rebuilding everything from the suspension up to the 3.0L twin plug and reducing weight down to 2200lbs it is my favorite. I'm also a track junkie, I've had the car on tracks in Wash, Ore, Cal, Ala, and Florida. Since I'm not a purist, I don't mind that it reflects my personality.

1. Its my ultimate dream car and was the Unobtainable as a lower middle class kid.

2. Its hand made and a piece of automotive history.

3. It works, and if it doesn't, I can fix it. Parts are available.

4. Its a Yoga / Zen Machine. No Screens, Assists, Just an analog experience you cant buy today.

5. Its fast enough to have a lot of fun in. Its great to have 650HP, but what fun is it if you risk Jail past 2nd gear..
