3.2 Speed/Ref sensor connectors

At the harness side in the engine compartment. The lower connector is crumbling when I removed the mount to change out fuel lines. Can the connector/s be replaced or does it require a new harness? I wrapped a piece of electrical tape around it for the time being just to hold it all together.

The pic shows the connectors and the arrows the harness side wires into the abyss. What is the best way to move forward? New connectors (what are they called and where would one find them? A new harness? and is it part of the main harness? The pic is NOT mine. Thanks.

Check the PET catalog, you should be able to find the connector part to order.

If you have the yellow tape on them they’re way past due for change as all the wire coating is crumbling after 35 years.

Be careful removing the electrical contacts use a very fine bladed screwdriver don't pull to hard on the wire once the tab is pushed back it should slide out easily.

The right hand side connector cannot be replaced. The left hand side ones can be easily replaced.

Yes, it is the right side that I am talking about, not the sensors themselves. When I removed the sensors from the post, the bottom right side sensor (ref sensor) connector was crumbling.

So the right side wires are part of the harness and they can't be replaced separately? Is it part of the main engine harness?

Any ideas how to fix or replace? I've read about AMP connectors, are these them?

The right side is the flywheel sensors. The left side is body harness for the moronic and DME.

The side with the metal clips is the harness, with the ones circles in blue on the picture above being the sensors themselves. They are amp jr connectors however the connectors are cast around the wires (I think) so they aren’t replaceable in the typical sense.

I would replace them as they will leave you stranded if/when they fail.

The 3 sensors themselves, of course, on the left side of the picture can be easily removed and replaced. That is not the problem.

It's what they plug into on the right side that I need to solve.

That's the question, how do I repair/replace them? Replace the entire harness or can the connectors be removed and refitted with new connectors? Anyone done this?

Read my previous post again, you have the sides reversed. The wire coming out of the connectors on the right side circles in blue go straight to the sensors on the bell housing of the transmission. Replace both sensors with the bmw part linked above.

Dan, saw your PM.
In the photo above, the female connectors on the left with the rubber boots, are part of the main harness and are replaceable.
The Male pieces (Posts) they plug into on the right side are cast on to the wires coming from the sensors/senders, and cannot be easily swapped out. A new sensor with cable assembly is usually what is needed.

EDIT: I posted the male post parts below for both 2 and 3 pin Male connectors

Did a search for you. Normally people replace the sensor. But if you want to replace just the male plug...

This a good example of simple miscommunication. The OP was asking a question and got a reply not pertaining to the question.

But if you feel like fixing the old ones to keep as spares, those are the parts you need.
