3.2 won’t start / power issue

Hi all,

My car has been sitting for 2-3 weeks in the garage while I was doing some work to it, but I used a tender in the past few days and the battery got fully charged.
Unfortunately, my power windows, lights (dash and externals), and ignition are not working.

I’ve checked the voltage at the battery and it looked good (12.7V), the current draw seems reasonable (12 mA), and I haven’t seen any blown fuse.

Just to double-check, I removed the cruise control (servo, control unit and steering lever), but left the wiring harness in the car around the pedal cluster (as in it's no longer connected to the unit). I also removed the clutch switch, my assumption was that it's only required for the cruise control.
Are those a potential source for my issue?

Any leads I should explore?

jp..start with the basics.Do you have extra DME relay --alias fuel pump relay, it is under your driver seat.
It could be just coincidence that it does not start
Do you have any alarm in your car system?

Also the engine is turning over?
If yes check if you have spark..

I have just tried to switch to a new one but that didn't help.

How old is the battery? Pull it out, and take it to be load tested. The first thing to double check is always the battery. Batteries of today have thin plates and can short out, and show 12.8 volts, but have no amperage. Once you KNOW the battery is good, then start reading on the thousands of pages about no start on this site.

You can have a battery jumped with a known good battery, and it still not work because the battery is shorted. So don't assume since you jumped it and it still did not work the battery is OK.

If the battery checks out, start with the grounds. From the battery connection to the transmission ground. Check them all, and clean them up.

ok i did not know it does not turn the engine.Does the starter click.Loosen the battery terminals and clean then make it tight.Also check your yellow wire on the starter if for some reason is off or loose

The battery is 2-3 years old. I took it for testing - and they deemed it was good... (somehow I would have hoped for a "not good", would have made things easier).
I also cleaned up the terminals and checked the starter wire, looks good to me but didn't solve my issue.

Starter doesn't click.

I know it's broad, and might not be related, but is there anything I should double-check as I was doing some work on the car? (related to cruise control servo/unit, clutch switch, steering wheel as I was removing the CC lever).

Which terminals have you cleaned? Battery or solenoid? What starter wire have you checked? Yellow wire at solenoid? How did you check it? With a meter?

See 'blatt 6' for the battery and the contact switch.

The cruise control should not have an impact, you can drive the car without the unit in and the clutch switch is only used in the cruisecontrol circuit.

You say some of the electrics (power window, ...) are not working, do some work then or are all dead ?

PS: on the right you find the cruise control (blatt 6), the area where you did the changes
'tempostat steuergeraet' = cruise control unit
'kupplungsschalter' = clutch switch
'schalter tempostat' = cruise control stalk
'relais tempostat' = cruise control relay

look under you dash on left ,if you by mistake disconnect the main plug from the ignition switch

As embarrassing as it could be, that was it! Must have disconnected by accident when I was in there.

Go ahead and clean the transmission ground strap, a good clean ground is ALWAYS a good thing.

At least it was a cheap fix!

It is impossible to have too many or to good of a ground. Anytime I am close to a ground, I check it just because it can't hurt. Weak grounds can make a great car act haunted.
