Had my '86 930 up to 140MPH for a very brief period on RT22 outside of Allentown giving a friend a quick ride.

Almost got in a lot of trouble though.

I remember shifting into from 3rd to 4th at about 125MPH and topping out around 140. Got on RT22 on one exit and off on the next exit. Passed a few cars while having fun. As I was exiting the highway in the decel lane, a brown 4-door ford pulled up beside me in the fast lane jammed on the brakes and switched 2 lanes to get behind me.

It was a dude and seemed to have his hand in front of his face. Then I noticed the unlit light bars in the windshield. It was a PA state trooper in an unmarked car. I pulled over at the first bank parking lot and he pulled in behind me but never put his lights on.

Here's how our conversation went:
Him: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: Yes, because I was being an ass.
Him: Correct. Take a guess at the speed I got you at.
Me: I don't want to know.
Him: Go ahead and take a guess.
Me: I don't want to know.
Him: I got you at over a buck 10.

He took my cards and went back to his car. At this time a marked state trooper pulled in.

He came back to my car in about 2-3 minutes, handed me my cards and said: In the state of Pennsylvania, I have to follow you for 3/10 of a mile to get a speed. I couldn't keep up with you so this is just a warning. Have a nice day.

He, the other trooper and I all pulled away. My buddy got more of an Porsche experience than just a quick ride.

Hours on end at the red line of my 88 when I lived in Stuttgart. Even though the speedo would indicate 160 mph, 140 mph is the fastest I saw on the GPS. I would keep it at the bottom of the red arc. No need to push it into the red. Stable as sitting at my desk with F/R spoiler. Even had to do some panic stops and the back end never felt like it was coming around.

Here's one returning from Garmisch to Stuttgart in the early morning. Audio is clipped due to copyright. Enjoy.

I'd driven the 911 down to north of Boston to pick up my daughter at college one day. We were almost home (still on the interstate) when she asked me this very question. I told her a little over 100, as i stood on it, i look over at her and said there's 115 and let off.

Going fast is fun (196 mph in my 2014 911 on the Autobahn), but I'd much rather do the twists.

125mph in my 86 Carrera. I’ve only been over 150 on track in a Koni Challenge 996.

120+ in 1978 at night on Kentucky freeway - - 1972 911T Coupe all stock - - White Corvette backed off at 100 . . . Karen was driving the Corvette . . .

135+ (not air cooled) 2002 Boxster S daytime California desert freeway - - BMW saw CHP Airplane and we slowed to speed limit - - good thing 5 miles and CHP had 2 pulled over . . . sometimes you are lucky . . .

140+ Son driving 1978 911SC full race car at COTA and other tracks . . . 915 5th gear is 0.96 limiting top speed . . .

It seems to me that the Porsche natural Aero plants the car at the higher speeds i.e. +90

Safe Driving Pelicans,
Regards,

110 mph on Interstate 89. Seemed stable but not sure I would want to go much faster when not on a track.

140 on the LIE very early in the morning. Only let off because I saw a police car on the shoulder way ahead, only to find out it was empty, just a plant. But it worked!

153 and it took a while to get there. Headers really do make a difference on the 3.2.

Did it on Federal Highway 2D.
- And I got passed.

I’ve seen 140 on the speedo of my ‘84, but it’s probably reading 7mph high at that speed. Got pulled over by a cop who clocked me at 95 five minutes later, and fortunately got a warning. It was the Sunday before Houston shut down for CV19, and a pretty rural farm road. I think the cop had more on his mind back when people were wearing rubber gloves and spraying down their groceries with bleach.
