that rain analogy isn't the case here. the conditions were clear and the turn just before the bridge was slightly wet due to overnight condensation. we learned from CHP that they're very familiar with this spot. driver is stable and doing ok. i agree it's a shame and cars can be replaced.

Given the differences between drivers and cars, the latter's not going to work.
I've been told that the drivers at an end of a group end up going faster, although it's never been fully explained nor understood by myself.

I've been at the front, middle and end of a pack and I just go the speed I want to.

I don't think it matters if one hits something head on or is rear ended, a roll bar in a street car is a head banger from what I've read.

True about Black-Ice, and don't forget our cars are fairly short wheelbase and will spin when prompted to do so.

Wrong time of year for summer tires, seen it may times in this forum, I'm just trying to get the word out and not pointing fingers. Not everyone grew up in freeze/thaw conditions like I did.

Went out for a drive, towards that road. Was moving up the hill when a 996/GT3 came up from behind, we boogied for awhile, then pulled over at a turnout. We started chatting, turns out he was on a drive with the driver the day it happened. He said they were well ahead and almost at the destination. Even he didn't know what the actual cause was.

Front bumper of the 1500 has two battering rams, literally, behind it which probably compressed the entire driver side a few feet in.



He's lucky the closing speed wasn't much faster.

Sounds like he'll make a recovery.

I found it odd in the picture that there is no fuel on the ground. I would have thought the tank would have at least cracked.

I've heard that story that it is a 'planned' part of the crunch zone but...it is on the gas tank making it a part of the 'crunch zone' and that would not be very bright would it.

The gas tank and spare tire would have at least partly tucked under the front of this truck given the height difference between the two vehicles. One reason trucks and SUVs scare the crap out of me (my dd is a smaller car).

It's the being rear ended that worries me.

They make several versions of the Knight Rider, mine has red running/parking lights, and also flashes 4-times and then goes bright solid red when the brake is depressed (also does this last part in the day time).
