Can I fix my differential magnets?
I made a dumb mistake. I rubbed a big magnet over the eight tiny magnets on my speedo sensor wheel in an effort to remove some small metal particles they had collected. About half way through this procedure I realized it was a dumb idea. Now half of those tiny magnets are de-magnetized !
Is there a way I can re-magnetize them? Or do I need to replace the sensor wheel? Thanks, Rob 1980SC |

I'm not sure about the remagnetizing. But you could very easily replace the magnets. They are simply epoxied into place. If you remove the whole magnet wheel, you'll have to replace the carrier bearing.

Thanks for the tip on the carrier bearing. I didn't realize it would need replacing.
Any idea where I could find suitable magnets? I don't remember much of what I learned in school about magnets. Someone here must know how you re-magnetize a magnet. Or can it not be done? Thanks, Rob 1980SC |

you can rig up a long arm puller, thru the holes in the aluminum disc, to hook under the inner bearing race and generally not kill the bearing, but you can't put the puller screw down the center hole. find a disc with a small centering hole that sits on top, or a stack of washers, that is slightly smaller than the inner race, so the race can be pulled past it.

I'd try remagnetizing them. If I want to magnetize a screwdriver I rub a magnet down the shaft. Maybe you can do that with the diff magnets?
