Air cooled 911 Race Car crazy I may be.

Been trying to get as much done as I can before starting a new job and move in a few weeks. Both of those will undoubtably slow things down again for a little bit.

As does still Autocrossing a buddies 914. Going to be a real disappointment if this 911 isn't significantly faster but always a possibility. Getting the 914 pretty dialed these days.

...... but back to the 911. Got the NOS Charlie bar installed. Nice to see some of the parts I have been collecting for the last 10+ years on the car!

Started looking around at the front crossmember mounts...... always a dangerous thing and saw something that looked a little like a crack. So I took some more undercoating off to investigate and...... things escalated.

Ended up adding some reinforcement and tying things in a little better to the cage. This thing is a tank at this point but when this build started the idea was to build it strong enough to survive the Targa Newfoundland rally soooooo onwards and upwards!

While I'm in there....... might as well seam weld a few more things.

Then onto oil cooler mounting. I am deleting the on engine cooler to maximize head and cylinder cooling with a 226mm fan....... in goes a CSF fender cooler and a big Setrab in the center hole........ and of course, custom brackets for everything.

Next up..... build all the ducting for the center cooler to vent it out the fender wells.

Wow. Just read this whole thread. Very cool. I am excited for updates!

It is also nice to know there are others out there have long term projects that don't get undivided attention. At least it makes me feel better!

Thanks Ryan. Glad people are enjoying seeing my bad ideas.

Speaking of bad ideas..... haven't gotten any work done on the car with the new house and job taking all my time but I have done a few things.

Had to modify my engine stand to make it telescopic. Used a piece of solid 2in aluminum bar stock to sleeve the leg.

........ and all that to achieve peak bachelor status. Hopefully can get the motor torn down and the case and crank off to the machine shop before the year is over. Staring at it every night and morning should be good motivation.
