How do I terminate custom plug wire lengths?
Hello,
I have a set of Clewett wires for my EFI conversion and in all my years have never cut and made my own wires, couldn’t find instructions on the Clewett site and none where included. I did a bit of searching and on YouTube, but not getting quite a reassuring bit of information. So, I get to strip back the insulation to expose the center conductor, but it is covered in a black coating and the inside of that appears more like fiber than wire, so first question, do I strip off the black, second question, do I fold it back on the insulation and then crimp the terminal on? Once terminated, what should I expect it to ohm at? Thanks, Rutager ![]()

Thanks, that one was better than the other ones I’ve seen, but still can’t tell if the black coating gets removed on the center conductor? Seems like it stays, but I of course don’t want to attach six connectors wrong and have to order more.

Thanks, the black coating stays!
What ohms should I expect on a finished wire?

Clewett wires are ohms/ft style, so the resistance will vary with the length you trim them to. Ihave a set on the bench and the #1 wire is approx. 1 foot long and 750 ohms...the #6 wire is 1780 ohms
regards, al

I had the same question(s). I didn't know where I would ultimately put my coils once the engine is installed in the car vs on the test stand so I left the lengths as is. I don't believe it will hurt anything as they are all roughly 42 in @1500 ohms.
Make sure you buy a plug wire tool.
