SSIs - Where to buy?

I'm looking for the best place to get a set of SSI's for my '78 3.0L. I see a bunch of different ones including complete kits but I want to be sure I get the right one for my motor, plus the prices are all over the map.

I just shopped around for a set. Got '74 (for my '85.) Paid $1,600 and change for them from an eBay seller: "Partscontainer."

There's a twist to this buy...The order included 2 other cheap bearing parts so there were 3 items all together including the SSIs. The seller shipped the 2 cheap parts---notably in a small box. I never received the SSIs but they WERE included in the SAME tracking number of the 2 parts shipped. So according to the shipping "record," I received the SSIs. Whether that was done scamwise or not is questionable. Living in a condo, the receiving department logs everything and cameras watch over gnats flying around so ultimately... there's proof on my end the SSIs never landed for me. I have yet to go to USPS to check the weight assigned to the tracking number. If that's there... the gun smokes. I've given the seller a shot at making this right one way or another. Push comes to shove, I'll see about getting that box weight and bring the matter up with eBay. In the meantime... a warning about buying from Partrscontainer. Great price... if I get them. [EDIT: I got them. Ebay Seller, "Partscontainer" came through after one message.]

I like to give competitive price sellers business because they're being competitive. Following that notion, combining cheap parts with expensive ones may not be a good idea if this is indeed a scam. (It stinks like one.) Am thinking it's a smart move to separate expensive buys from cheap ones to avoid sellers using this tracking number trick---or blundering if it was indeed an honest mistake.

The host shows them as "out of stock" for '78.

Disc seven, it’s one of the classic scams, for sure. I would contact eBay immediately.

I would still call. They showed as “out of stock” when I ordered mine, but I had a set in hand less than a week later. Maybe I got lucky but since then I’ve always ordered by phone with good results despite what the catalog says

I like giving long time trusted sellers my business because they earned their reputation. I’ll take good service over a discount.

Where are you located? We are Dansk/SSI dealer. We only have 3.2 SSI in stock but have access to the same warehouse in Cali that everyone does.

We just delivered a set for a 3.0 a couple of weeks ago.

Get local if you can from an Indy that provides service to your area for our cars. If you are near us, happy to help.

Cheers

They forgot to include the SSI's. Send them a message and if possible show image from cctv of the box being delivered.

Alternatively, ebay only allows one tracking number and they had two separate ones to enter. Either way, get in touch and don't miss the deadline to report an item not turning up.

I assume USA is same as here - buyer always gets the benefit of the doubt so refund will be no problem.

JR... not to hyjack your thread, but in response to guys that commented on eBay from where I may have gotten my SSIs from, I did advise the seller, Partscontainer, of the issue in hand. I also just returned from a USPS office where I got the tracked package's weight. 5 ozs. SSIs weigh 37.83 lbs.

Will see how the seller responds. They have 3 days from my notice to refund---I want the SSIs at the price they offered (unless they're defects which I find is not unusual to get from eBay and Amazon.) One way or another this will work out. Is a waste of time dealing with this sort of stuff. Is the risk that comes from going for what sounds like a bargain. Sometimes bargains bite.

First one as you scroll down is the thin flange for your 78.

Or just buy from a reputable seller with a brick and mortar facility that actually supports the brand/community you live in....

Cheers

Second hand ones appear in Pelican's 911 Used parts classifieds often enough. Just make sure you get the ones you need - thick flange OR thin flange.

Arrived yesterday. $1,677.31 for pair. EBay seller “Partscontainer.” Is going with Dansk sausage 1620607900. These parts are for a ‘74 911 going on a 3.2 in my '80. To fit requires oil lines 911.107.739.10 and 911.103.739.10. Sausage calls for different strap, 901-111-157-04. Word is these ‘74 parts fit a 3.2. If you go this route, triple check me on this. (This time seller shipped FedEx overnight... at their expense.)

That looks like a thick flange exchanger. Is that right for a 3.2?

I had an almost exact same experience with Partscontainer for my SSIs… They were shipped to someplace else. They were super fast to refund, professional and I’ve ordered lots of other stuff from them without issue. I ended up getting them from a different seller because they were out for my year/model. Maybe they just don’t like guys named Karl.

Regards,
Karl

91.917SSI Flange thickness = 20mm.

Believe this is stock 3.2. (Is not off my engine.)

Brochure comes in packaging with exchangers...

Blurb in brochure re 91.917SSI. (Am going to look into oil pipe part numbers noted previously as one of these does not match one I have.)

Body copy asserts top curve demonstrating HP gain with only an SSI mod. (Note also indicates these NOT being street legal in CA.) Am doing this conversion to replace the old exchanger, dump the cat, and eliminate the crossover...

JR, curious as to why you're hunting down an SSI set?

Karl... we may indeed be name-cursed at Partscontainer---never know what voodoo plays in to matters. I sent them one message explaining situation, including I wanted the buy and NOT a refund. To their credit, they shipped the next day no questions asked. So, while they mess with our name-sakes, they do respond swiftly. Am pleased to hear you've been buying from them for some time. Leads to confidence on my part to continue with them. They do offer very competitive prices on Porsche parts---these SSIs are case in point. And no offense to Pelican, I buy from our Host too.

Yes, sold to Dansk. There were some issues early on. The lasts few sets we have received have been great.

Cheers
