Stupid P&C question

When increasing the bore on a 3.0L, do you need to bore out with the case or do the new cylinders have a thinner wall?

The most common method is to bore out the cylinders while leaving the case alone. This leaves them with slightly thinner walls, but if kept within reason, has not really been cause for concern.

up 98mm bore no case work

100mm and larger case work

FWIW, the 3.2l Carrera engine has the same bore as a 3.0sc -- its larger displacement comes from a crank with a longer stroke

Correct, the '84-89 3.2 is 95 x 74.4 for 3164cc, the previous gen 3.0 were 95x70.4 for 2994cc

put 98s w/ a 70.4 for 3186cc
or 98 w/ 74.4 for 3367cc

the ones w/ potential issues are the 100mm bore motors which have reduced the meat between the cylinders reducing stability

stud spacing for 2.0 - 2.7 is 83mm
stud spacing for 3.0 - 3.3 is 86mm
stud spacing for 3.8 - 3.8 is 90mm

all have the same cylinder ctr @118mm w/ 59mm stagger

Oops, I meant the 3.2SS. (At least, I think that's what ya'll call the 98mm cans on the 3.0L crank!)

You need Carrera cylinders to open to 98mm because of the head sealing
SC cylinders can do 97mm for 3.1liter and maintain the head gasket.
