Very sorry to see this post. Fred and I PM'd several times over the course of my engine rebuild and the amount of knowledge he possessed was just out of this world. I hope his family can understand what he meant to so many people. RIP, Fred

So Sad. Good guy , Didn't know him well aside from a few porsche parts that went back and forth, but a number of years ago he went to bat for me when a west coast Crankshaft shop wasn't returning my crankshaft, my calls or sending the money for it. He had no dog in the fight but somehow got me my money. A few years later on a totally different issue , at his request, I traveled from NY to PA for a day to testify in court in a law suit he was involved in.

Well, that explains why I haven't gotten my reflector replacement that Fred had made, said it would be the last one, so, knowing Fred, I sent him the money and didn't worry. To say that Fred was a good guy, is an absolute understatement, for someone with his experience and history, he was just a guy who liked to talk cars and truly had some great stories and history. Sometimes when he and niv 6f4sfhis wife and dog would come through town, he would call me and we would meet for breakfast. Sometimes, out of the blue he would call just to chat, and share his knowledge. He was friends with someone else who was very special to me that was also taken too soon, one of the reasons why he seemed to like me was because our mutual friend always talked highly about me . This is just one more reason I hate this time of year. I had planned on reaching out to Fred the beginning of the year to have him rebuild, with his special magic and his special P&Cs for CSI
Fred was a beacon of light, a major source of knowledge and information, humor, humility, all the best things in one, very friendly, very humble person . I will miss Fred and the Community has truly lost a great soul, source of knowledge and just a overall, very good Man.
GODS SPEED Fred, you leave a huge hole in the community

I only met Fred once, at his place in PA. That was an amazing visit and he was a great guy.

I'm sad to see this.

He will be missed.

Damn, what a sad loss to the community.

I met Fred once at Tony's engine building class. He was so generous with his time and encyclopedia-like Porsche knowledge and spent the better part of the day sharing stories, tips, and tricks with our cars. He was even kind enough to give everyone his cell phone in case we ever had any questions when wrenching on our own cars.

It's rare you meet someone who devoted a career to a subject who could still share that enthusiast passion in his free time even after 40+ years in the industry. Reading everyone else's experiences with Fred, it sounds like he touched the rest of our community similarly.

Very well said, like taking a full race car out on a public road, and running from the law, getting back into the shop only to be outed the next day. Fred was the most generous man with his time and decades of experience, truly a sad day for the Porsche community.

Man this really sucks. I sold a bunch of parts to Fred a few years back and he was a class act. I remember something happened with the shipping being delayed (Amtrak of course) and I was constantly checking in to see the status. Fred didn't seem worried at all and was completely understanding. The parts eventually arrived and all was good but I remember how easy breezy he was with the whole situation. RIP Fred, you are missed.

Dinner date with Fred and Carol at Pinehurst........

Fred is an avid fan of the Food Channel like my wife. During dinner, Fred mentioned that the chef of the restaurant was once a contestant in the “Chop” series and my wife Amor requested to have a picture taken.

BTW, Fred drove more than 80 miles to make a deposit and looked at the motor I was buying. He was very generous with his time to help people and very fortunate to have a friend like him. His passing away was a big shock to me because I thought he was in remission.

We will miss you Fred. Ciao.

Tony

Can we get this a Sticky, Fred more than earned a spot on the Pelican Hall of fame if there was one. He clearly reached a lot of members here, all in a very positive way.

Fred helped me, a young upper-twenties Porsche enthusiast, tremendously on a few 911s that I was rebuilding in the last few years. He would come out to my workshop and give so much advice (I’d still be stuck without him!). What an amazing resource he was with his incredible memory. Ciao Fred
