Fuel Pump Relay Bypass

I made a test jumper switch to power the fuel pump at the relay. The terminal pins I made fit snugly in the socket.

I took Steel pop rivets and swelled them slightly and removed the shank. Soldered them and they fit snugly.

Thanks for the picture. I need to make one and I like the pop rivet idea.

Good idea. I had to use slightly-oversize banana plugs because I couldn’t find the right size, and squish them a bit.

I was worried that the female receptacle might stretch with the banana plug. Swelling the pop-rivet controls the end fit.

Instead of your rivets, I used 14 gauge uninsulated butt connectors in my test jumper switch. I crimped one side of the connector onto the end of the 14 gauge wire and left the opposite end as is. The non-crimped end of the uninsulated butt connector fit perfectly into the socket.

I use roofing nails.....and leave the toggle switch lines stranded and unsoldered (except for an inline fuse). Just push the nails in with the stranded wire until firm.

The wire jumper kit is for running the FP (ignition switch @ ON) and bridging terminals #87a and #30. The remote starter you were referring is connected to the starter and totally a different test set-up.

If your FP relay socket is properly installed and has not been removed, the pin locations are at:

6 and 10 o’clock orientations. Double check this by using the FP relay pins. You need 30 and 87a terminals to connect with your jumper wires. Don’t forget to use an in-line fuse (8 amp.).

I put a little white out dot on mine....memory is just not what it used to be...you can see the white out dot at the 10 o'clock pin position in the pic above on the relay socket. The dot is hidden at the six o'clock position..... by the roofing nail!
Roofing nails! Hahahahaha!

Do recommend the 7/8” over the 1” roofing nails.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Hey, whatever works.

Hey, I got as trick pressure gauge set as well! Standard Female M12 on the end to the WUR and a Male M12 on the other end.
This way you don't have to disconnect the fuel line up at the FD. That's tight to work and better to just disconnect one fitting at the WUR and put your pressure gauge set in there.
No muss, no fuss....

Looks great for a flexible line car. Good thinking outside the box. One connection to break during setup. With a steel line car “not so good”.

tsuter,

We have been doing this installation for more than a quarter of a century. I started using it in the early 90’s and never like the factory procedure. Most people in this community is using the WUR method rather than @ the FD side. Good you brought it up. It is a better mouse trap than the factory method.

If you have a CIS pressure gauge kit, you would need a 12-mm x 1.5 male coupler. See picture below:

They normally come with the pressure gauge kit.

Terminals #86 and #87A are interchanged in your diagram. Terminals #87A @10 O’Clock orientation. Technically speaking, bridging #30-#87A has the same effect as bridging #30-#86. Why? Simply because terminals #86 and #87A are connected at the fuel relay socket. Test it for your satisfaction.
