Ugh Ugh Ugh Doug in my best Popeye voice.

I wish I could join you as it's just a stones throw from Alberta :D

My wife and I just booked a room at the Hood River Inn.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

I admit it! I envy the drive you guys are gonna have. Now, if I could just convince my wife to go out for a nice, long drive. :D

Type911 06-11-2003 05:00 AM

ahhhh, The Gorge ! That's a great picture overlooking Rowena.
My wife & I moved to Hood River when we got out of college
(Uof O), I worked in The Dalles, stayed for almost 5 years.
Back then I was still dreaming of owning a Porsche, driving a 1960 VW Beetle with 356 rims, 12v & a hyd. lifter 1600 w/ dual solex 32's & Gene Berg single qp exhaust.
I remember when
Stephen D (Route 30 classics) first moved to town, lots of cool 356's suddenly appeared on the scene! Now he is just down the road in Mosier, its a really cool place for those that have not been.
Ok, so is this basically a 2 day weekend event??? I know its a top secret SCWDP thing, can anyone provide more details ??

I made it from Hood River to Durango, CO in the old Bug in about 20 hours (1300 miles), I wonder what my SC will make it in ??

mmmmmm, ROAD TRIP :D

>>I wish I could join you as it's just a stones throw from Alberta <<

Or a 12+ hour drive.....

I go thru that area every April, didn't go by Hood River this time but did drive some fantastic twisty roads in the area. Unfortunately we were in a SUV loaded with ski gear so the driving experience was a little muted ;)

I'd love to go again in the Porsche but no time this year, and I have my doubts mine would make the trip, if we showed up in the wifes 944 we would probably be ostracised :)

Achtung, SCWDP soldiers and confidants......
As per last year, the official SCWDP Rainforest Round-Up website will be at:
http://members.shaw.ca/zielke/roundup.htm

Shortly, there will be full info posted for the event. Bookmark it, and change your oil before July 26th!!

Nope. If it's got the proper crest it is welcome. See, these SCWDP guys are so nice they even let a Carrera owner organize this years Round-Up....:)

As far as those who wish for more details....we will not be posting the exact route on the board. Once a room is booked and you send me an email so as to get you on the offical email routing list...and I finish writing up the formal route instructions... well, then you can get all the lurid details of the route.

island911 06-11-2003 09:26 AM

the exact route

It should be obvious from these pictures taken at the pre-drive;

Rallying point Start, view.

.
.
.
a whole bunch of twisty road (no pict)
.
.
.
End (Day one) rallying point view.

See, completely obvious route!

Note: plenty of parking at both locations.

phoneguy 06-11-2003 10:14 AM

With all these P-cars in one place we definetely need John Walker's "Mobile" Workshop. I hope to be there!

Type911 06-11-2003 11:07 AM

...not sure about the route,
but it looks like the rallying point picture is taken from the
deck of the Full Sail Brewery

I "test drove" from Spokane south to The Tri-Cities and then on to Route 14 on the Washington side all the way to Portland already twice. Wow wow wow. Planning to do it again July 4th for the Soveren in Seattle and to try out my new 7's & 8's. Anyone up to a "Test run" for the July 4th long weekend????

Probably not going to be up for another long test run as I'll be at the SOVERN races all weekend. A few of us Seattlites seem to get together for breakfast on one of the days and then drive down to Pacific Raceways together....your more than welcome to join us if you'd like.

JW has been invited....not because he is an ace mech, but because well, we like him...we really, really do......(in my best Sally Fields voice...not pretty btw)!

John, get that Turbo done and painted!

Doug Zielke 06-11-2003 05:13 PM

Yes, John, please see if you can attend this years Round-Up.
I don't care if you drive the Subaru!
And I promise there will be *no* autograph sessions. ;)

Doug Zielke 06-11-2003 05:13 PM

Double post deleted, sorry!

curtisaa 06-11-2003 08:35 PM

RandyW...

Be careful...If island is near, there might be turbulence ahead !! 3.0L is a must, and spring loaded bumpers necessary !!! Stay at the very end of the pack.;)

island911 06-11-2003 10:24 PM

Curt, are you really affraid Randy can't stay at the very FRONT of the pack . . .w/o being bumper-tagged by an SC? HAhaha. Give Randy some credit. With that nicely sorted 3.2 transplant, he can keep up . .. most the time. :D

BTW--The Engineered bumpers of the SC are nice even to the fragile ego. . er'a bumpers of those fragile r-gruppe cars.
(the iconic 1974-1989 engineered bumpers don't *just* look better; they work better too.)

Maybe I'll buy and install MikeZ's 911 trailer-hitch . .. .just to give an extra challenge to extra-fast guys like you. :p

Seriously though, like last year, I'll likely drive this round-up with Eric Coffie. He and I are the default official photographers. He's suggested we take his Carrera Targa this time, since my SC coupe was a bit confining for picture taking on the last Round-up.
. . .while I'm pretty good at steering with my knees while hanging a camera out a window or sunroof, [feign]my art suffers. .. .no one understands me[/feign]. ;)
So Curt, you see I'll be much too busy to razz all you r-gruppers that can make it.
. . . .well, on the road, anyway ;)

Randy W 06-12-2003 07:22 AM

Heck, Curtis, since it will be the hottest time of the year in the Gorge, I'll probably be drivin' the A/C Boxster S - with my wife as navigator! It's got a 3.2 and big bumpers, so as not to offend (or disgrace). ;)

Say it isn't so! Water cooling...big bumpers...mid-engine. It's all just wrong I tell ya....:)

The more variety the better.
