Any hints on how to remove the speedometer?
Need to send it off for repair but can’t get it to budge.

check out this article. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/101_Projects_Porsche_911/88-Speedo_Repl/88-Speedo_Repl.htm#:~:text=Like%20the%20rest%20of%20t he,you%20don%27t%20ding%20anything. Also, this YouTube video,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWZkiFRzhZI thought seems removing the steering wheel would be overkill

Fine flathead screwdriver, prying super carefully so as not to scratch the surrounding dash.
If it's easier to pop out an adjacent instrument, then reach behind to push the speedo out from behind. Or, I have gone through the frunk and used a long dowel to push out an instrument, too. I don't think I had to remove the steering wheel, though I may have used a lot of curse words to help guide the tach out.

Plastic trim tools are helpful.

Just use a plastic or nylon pry tool, it just pops right out.
If you use a screwdriver, wrap the tip in masking tape to prevent scratching the paint. Take photos of the back of the speedometer BEFORE you disconnect anything. Lots of photos from different angles. It makes it much easier to reattach all the wires and connectors properly.

While the above suggestions are helpful, I found it easier to remove the trim panel in the frunk (front trunk) and push out the gauges from their back.
(Full disclosure: I had the trim panel removed for other work...) |

Just know there is not any "gotchha" hidden clip or retaining screw. It is just simple friction of the rubber ring and the hole in the dash. It helps to remove the steering wheel, as that is easy to do as well. Once it it out of the seated into place position, it is a tight fit to see all the wires and connectors.
It is a very basic design.

As Proporsche says, just remove the clock as it's much easier and probably has been out before. Then push the speedo out from the back. Careful not to scratch the bezel on the steering column/trim.

If it has never been removed, it can get pretty stuck to the rubber gasket. Keep pushing from the back side and pulling from the front side.

That was not easy, they were kind of glued in, was not able to get speedometer out so tried for the clock first. A long time and it wouldn’t move. Hit it with a hairdryer to soften the rubber and was able to get a little movement at the bottom, more heat and it started to come out. It looks like the glue used to apply the dash cover fused the rubber on the gauges to it.
Thank you for all the help and suggestions. Now, haven’t heard the latest, but is it still recommended to ship to Hollywood speedometer? Thanks again |

I've removed mine a few times. I use a broom handle (or similar) and tap it out from inside the hood.
