Pelican Parts WOW - CHECK IT OUT - Cool New Feature - OEM Part Number Lookup!

We've been doing an extensive overhaul of our back-end database. One of the benefits of this is our ability to now cross-reference parts for both BMW and Porsche!

Check it out - enter any OEM part number into the Search field at the top of this BBS page, and you will see what I mean. This is great for people who look up the OEM part numbers on their own, and want to know if something is available, and what the cost will be.

This is very cool, and something that people have been requesting for a long time. It wasn't possible in the past, but with our new database overhaul, it's easy. Let me know if you have any suggestions on how to improve it.

For those of you who have ordered recently, you may have noticed that some of the parts have expected delivery times listed in the shopping cart. This is also part of our database improvement project!

It also does supercessions! Do a sample search for this part: 90155933000, and you will see what I mean. Click on the link and you will automatically be taken to the page for that product!

I was just about to figure out your numbering system-thanks for one less complication in my life. BTW, I've been very pleased with your customer service-the stock information you've added is great. Recently, I ordered a key head, and you guys sent a complete key, no upcharge, I guess to avoid a delay. Tres cool.

Wayne, great feature! One thing I encountered was an error when trying to get back to the main catalog. It only happens when I used the button on the lower right. It gives me this

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.pelicanparts.comindex.htm
The dnsserver returned:

Name Error: The domain name does not exist.

Might just be me.

Wayne,
Any idea what PCNA thinks about this?
I mean, are the part numbers their property?

Awesome. Sure makes it easier to find a part when you have the part number. I don't like the price inflation with the supercessions though ;-)

Yes, but so are all the photos and part numbers that are used to sell all of the Techquipment for the Boxster and 996, and we've been using these for years with Porsche's blessing. In general, Porsche's policies in the past have centered upon the use of their information to sell non-OEM or non-genuine parts. In the case of the part number listings, we are using these parts listings to resell their parts only (Genuine Porsche). We also have separate Pelican Part numbers, which are a requirement from Porsche, primarily because Porsche doesn't want people confusing aftermarket (OEM) parts with Genuine Porsche parts. Hence the two columns that list the OEM part number and the Pelican Part Number. The information was provided to us by the dealer that we work with as a list of parts and prices that are currently available to resell.

Enjoy!

Wayne is awsome!!! Unfortunately though, it doesn't mean Porsche Corp. is going to be any quicker or have those misc OEM hardware bits available though.

Wayne,
I just played around with this. What a godsend!! I have a few questions:
-Can you add in a link for "Add to Project List" as well as "Add to cart"?
-It would be great if that link opened in a new window so I could continue firing part numbers at the database query screen without having to go back each time. Yeah I know how to right click, I'm just lazy.
-For parts with supercessions? What is the price? When I click through to the most recent part, is that the correct price? Are the earlier part #s still available?
-For Porsche "special order" items. How well is your team equipped to handle these? I've had terrible luck with dealers. I put in the orders on dealer parts and never hear back from them, or just get some of the parts I order. The rest of the order vaporizes. I need someone who can properly manage the process and not leave me hanging.

Here are some answers to your questions:

- Project List? Hadn't really thought about it. The Project List is really geared towards parts that we regularly stock. I don't think that people would be placing large amounts of special order parts on our Project Lists, but I could be wrong.

- Parts that have been superceded are no longer available. I discussed this with Tom, and we thought it would be obvious, but I guess not? The superceded part is the only one available (and the only one you can order). The price for the superceded part is the price of that part.

- We deal with these types of parts everday (our catalog is made up of about 1/2 of these parts). The system that we have is only okay - not great. It's not computer-tracked right now (I'm working on that slowly). The good news is tha the parts listed in our database *should* be readily available at a moment's notice. One problem the dealers might have is that they don't check the central database from Porsche before ordering? I'm not sure, but the data is current, and we're going to be updating it each and every month.
