Can anyone tell me which part of the door handle assembly I broke?
The door opens fine from inside. It won't open from the exterior. The handle required quite a bit of force for a while and finally it stopped working altogether. I'd rather just have the part ordered before I disassemble everything.

to be quite honest, it is hard to say if anything is broken. It could be just the bolt loose which hold the little finger ...It is actually not that hard on your model to remove the door panel and remove the handle ,Once is out i`d bet you`ll see the problem ..

Some of those outside handles have a finger that needs to be positioned between a "V" on the inner mechanism. If that finger is outside the "V," outside handle does not open the door. (Not sure if that's the finger Ivan is referring to.)

![]() So big surprise, the trigger failed. What is the proper solution? Just buy another handle? I see there are a few other trigger solutions but a search on Pelican says they don't fit or work well.

One more question - Does anyone have the Rennline drilled door handles?
I think they look slick but it says I need to swap the door lock mechanism from an earlier car. Is this necessary?

Well, what I see is the dove tail joint isn’t seated. The 5mm stud with the hex at the bottom is what secures that. Take a deep 8mm socket and try tightening the stud/bolt to reseat the trigger pin housing with the dovetail.

I did this. However, the trigger is detached from the hinge pin as this part of the trigger has fully severed, so when you press down, it doesn't fully extend the arm to tap the release.

Thanks, Ivan! I keep seeing '72 to '84 and mine is a '71. That should work, right? As I understand it, the punch-style handle is '69 and earlier.

I bought that used one from eBay as it appears to be easier to swap tumblers and reinstall than it is to swap triggers, I think. I still may order the snazzy Rennline drilled handles but I need to figure out if I need to swap the lock assembly, which I really don't want to do.

Only ones I've seen are chromed. OE triggers seem to corrode long before the rest of the handle.

All the ones I found were black. Maybe I didn't look in the right place.

Unscrew the stud/bolt, take it apart, let’s see what’s broken.

Of course, I dropped one of the mounting nuts into the nether region and have to hit the hardware store for a new one.
