Rotary A/C Compressor
What advantages does a rotary a/c compressor have over the stock Nippondenso in my 84?
Anyone have a rotary they'd be interested in selling?

The advantage is less strain on the motor. You can bearly feel the rotary compressor when it cuts on.

Well, as you know, i don't have one, but i believe the advantages mechanically are that the rotarie's are smaller and lighter. Because of mechanical design, rotaries go through a "pump" cylce three times per revolution. Therefore it can be smaller than a piston pump but yet compress the same volume since it does it more times per rev.

Correct on all counts. Rotarties can be felt in our engines; the pulsing of the pistons. When you turn on the a/c you will feel the compressor. Good time to change out and go with the new coolant (R134) as well. Freon is not going to get any easier to find and it is expensive.

Aside from it being smoother, does the rotary provide any additional cooling?

I changed to rotary and at the same time changed to R134. It does not cool as well as it did with the original compressor, but close. The good thing is I can add R134 for about $5.00 a can and I can do it myself.

Can anyone give me the correct brand and part number for a rotary compressor that will fit my 84 3.2?
Thanks.
