Knocking noise in reverse

Just developed a knocking noise in reverse only in my '84 Carrera. The noise slows down or increases with with the speed of my reverse. Coincidence , maybe, but noticed my odometer only has stopped working as well . Probably two
separate issues but thought I'd mention it. On occasion, the noise seems to go away.
Any idea's on where to start looking?

Maybe CV joints.

Couple of possible causes: CV joints, something loose in the parking brake assembly, maybe a bearing, hopefully not a worn ring/pinion interface...

I had that happen to an 72 Audi 100 (fwd) CV axle bearing cage cracked, but the rattle clunk was consistent.

For what it’s worth, if you have an old cellphone, glue some strong neodymium magnets to the phone case and you have a DYI Go-Pro to attach to the underside, you might be able to record a video to review when doing any one-man exploration and inspections of hard to reach places.

If the CV joint boots are not split and leaking, the CV joint probably is still good. They last a looooong time if they don't get dirt inside.
