Base knowledge/required reading.

Greetings,

What would be considered the starting point for acquiring a baseline knowledge of SWB 911s? Specifically 1967 non-S/"normal" cars.

I'm not new to Porsche - current 74 2.0 914 and 23 Macan S owner - former 73 1.7 914, 86 and 89 944 Turbo owner - so I've been around a little bit but would really like to start learning about early 911s.

I'm here and on the early 911S site - starting to sift through there but other sites and hard-copy book suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Brian
L.A.

I'm not in the longnose cars yet, but this is the book I have with me while working on my SC:
https://us.haynes.com/products/porsche-911-65-89-for-coupe-targa-cabriolet-haynes-repair-manual
It contains many self explaining views of any aspect of these cars including wiring diagrams for all variants and model years.

Then from our host the following books are highly recommended too:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0760308535/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0760310874/

Thank you - these are great.

I'm on 914 World a lot and there are threads labeled as "classic" - does this forum have a similar list? I've looked and haven't seen any. Just making sure I didn't miss it.

Seems it's easy to find information on "S" cars but "normal's" seem a bit left behind...

This forum covers all the air cooled versions of the 911 from first few 1964 models to the last 964. Pretty much every possible question has been asked, and answered multiple times.

Welcome to the madness of 911 ownership and this forum.

If you want to deep dive into the historical development and evolution of the 911 this book is a must read:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1859608396/

Paul Frère was a famous belgian motor journalist and race driver who spoke german fluently, so he was able to work closely with the Porsche engineers to gather information. He succeeded 2nd place in the 1955 edition of Le Mans when Mercedes driver Pierre Levegh and 83 spectators died in the horrible accident...

Great book. Also, there is Wade Guthrie's FAQ here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/911/technical_specs/911_guthrie_faq.htm

Some addendum, there are some really good explicit buyers guides out there as I found out on the weekend:
Porsche 911: Guide to Purchase and D.I.Y. Restoration (Foulis Motoring Book) Lindsay Portern&Peter Morgan
Porsche 911 The classic models (1964-1989): The Classic Models (1964-1989) Including Turbo and 912 (Ultimate Buyers' Guide), Peter Morgan
