Help! Clutch disengagement issue.
-Took the engine out of low mileage, perfectly running 911sc for repaint Jan 2024
-Separated engine and transmission for engine stand, then sat inside dry shop -No transmission work -Reassembled recently, got everything working//running -when reattaching clutch cable and adjusting, clutch pedal feels different, less smooth and more “stretchy”, and more effort required to press, especially at far end of travel (though it’s been so long since driving this might be normal, but doesn’t feel like it) -when pressing clutch the arm on transmission is moving etc -when pressing clutch pedal, it does not appear to disengage clutch -shifting with engine running grinds badly - starting on lift in gear, axles spinning, engaging clutch does not effect wheel movement at all (no clutch disengagement) -adjusted the adjustment screw on transmission clutch arm to MAX clutch disengagement (fully screwed in) to confirm symptoms, no change, still grinds -I have read talk that sometimes the clutch can get stuck on flywheel, which might cause my issues. Though the strange clutch feel I’m not sure is caused by the same thing. Anyone had similar experience and have any recommendations or solutions?? Trying to avoid pulling the engine/trans again, but that may be the only option. Thanks for any help!! |

Do you have any clutch pedal play? If not maybe you can adjust clutch cable a little more to get clutch to disengage.

![]() Remove the short arm and adjust it a few splines over. It should look like the last picture in this post. 915 Clutch Helper "Omega" Spring Function You can also try deleting the Omega spring action .... earliers cars make do completely fine without it. Another advantage is that you don’t have to dent that SSI just for the Omega.
Think about it. |

Are you using the original clutch or has it been replaced? I know the SC's came with the rubber centered cone clutch. Heat and time will cause it to slowly disintegrate. My symtom was it worked ok cold but as I traveled down the road it was much more difficult to shift gears.

if you disconnect the cable, there should be a 1.2 mm gap between the positioning lever and the stop bolt, else adjust the stop bolt to get 1.2 mm. Then you adjust the cable with the cable housing lock nuts until you get a 1.0 mm gap between the lever and the stop bolt.

It's entirely possible to have the clutch frozen to the flywheel ...

Are you sure that the release fork is engaged into the t/o bearing?
