Cole Scrogham used to offer a similar class here, even included an autograghed copy of Bruce's book. Got to watch him rebuild a 906 engine for a racer. Great stuff...

Whoa, sorry about that, I tried editing my post twice, and it must have coincided with the server difficulties...

I think I'll call up tomorrow and reserve a 'seat'.

What time does the class start/end?

Sounds good. I emailed Bruce. If there is still a spot open, I'll be there with my lil' blue Coupe.

Sounds good, Tom. Hey, I just read your profile, and I was wondering if your car was one of the CS's that were on display? I took some pics, but don't recall seeing a silver one.

Yep, I was there. I was on the left of the CS with the "825" on it (first of 28 Carrera CS's sold in the US). Lousy weather for pics! The blue one was just for sale on eBay but did not make reserve.

I'll bring my CS on Saturday too.

After-action report

Just back from Jerry Woods' and Bruce Anderson's 911 tuneup class.

A great experience and highly recommended to all, especially those guys new to 911's. Not intimidating at all; Jerry is a great "lecturer" with concise, understandable explanations and there is no such thing as a stupid question; I can personally vouch for that, i.e. "So that is what that tool is for".

Plus I met a few Pelicanheads face to face (Danskman & 96conv) and the 14 attendees compared notes on their cars and partook in some pretty good pizza!

Yes Tom, I agree. The class was very good. I think the items that Jerry chose to review with us were very good choices, and done in a complete and thourough manner. The strength of the class was the wealth of knowledge of Jerry and Bruce. Not just techniques, but a lot of insight and background.

My only reservation on the class, and I strongly pointed this out to Bruce in the evaluation, was that the car that we worked on was not a good example to relate to. For those of you who weren't there, the work car was a '71 or '72 911 race car with a 2.7L engine with carbs. The overall impact of the class would have been much stronger for me if the car we used was something we could more relate to working on - like an SC or a Carrera. I would rather have seen the a/c compressor in the way, the heater hoses and blower in the way, fuel injection, etc. The engine compartment of the race car was sterile and had enough room to crawl around in - not really the application that all of us would go home to and work on.

Even considering that fact, however, the class really was outstanding. There were a couple holdovers there from the week long engine rebuild class and they had nothing but great things to say about that class too. Kudos to Jerry and Bruce. And you know what? It looked as though they really enjoyed doing it.

Yep - you are absolututly right!

I did mention to Bruce that it would have been nice to see a fuel injected car as opposed to one with carbs, but the a/c issue never occured to me (for obvious reasons).

Do you run your Trackmagic at Sears? If so, we may see you up there this season.

Hi,

I agree with Tom it was a great class, however, when I got home and checked out my engine compartment, and I had about 1/3 the room to work in there. I wish they had used a later model carrera as an example. I'm not sure how to remove the blower to get access to the valves.

Other than that, it was a great experience, and I would do it again. Nice meeting you guys, Tom, Chris, and the guy with the blue 911 with a bad 3rd gear. Sorry I didn't catch your name.

Hope to see you guys again,

Chris

Hah! That's it, from now on I shall be known as "the guy with the blue 911 with a bad 3rd gear."

Yes, that was me. Hopefully I'll get the syncro resolved within the next 4-6 months.

The blue 911:

The class was great and I felt I learned alot. True, it would have been more realistic if the class car were a regular SC/Carrera. The cars in the parking lot were pretty amazing also, specially TomTurtles ClubSport, that thing was amazing.

Is anyone going to post pictures from the class? I'd like to get a picture of the class car (full body, not just engine).
