Yeah - I think Rich volunteered the car for the free Mobil 1 oil change!

We also got real well acquainted with his valve clearances, brake pads and wheel bearings, among other things. I think he was planning on driving it in today's PCA GGR autox at Marina.

bump..

No one has full body pics of Rich Waltons car from the tune-up class? I'm sure some of you guys from the class have them, post 'em.

I wish I had taken my camera, but forgot it at home in the excitement of it all. :/

I have some of it from Laguna Seca, from the previous weekend. Hang tight and I'll try and post them.

I agree with all of your observations about the class. It was definitely worth the drive there plus I got to meet some Pelicanites and a few other enthusiasts. Tom's CS is a killer ride as is Danskman's Weissach, Moazam's midnight blue Carrera and Johann's red full-leather 911. I also got some great ideas on how to fix my '79SC. Toothzilla, let me know about the January autocross or DE event in Buttonwillow and I'll join you there. Moazam let us know how you plan to take care of your dash and rear seats. I may do the same. BTW, Bruce said he's gonna teach a class on 911 suspension next year. I was intimidated at the beginning of this class until the introductions. Then I realized, we are all pretty much at the same level of familiarity with our cars. Great class! I highly recommend it!

Moazam or the guy with bad 3rd gear,

Let me know how you decide to fix your dash. I looked at mine tonight, and I noticed I've got a hump like yours, only not as high. Also, please let me know if you go with that seine or wevo system. Maybe you, chris, and I can make a party of putting them in.

Chris

The dash will have to wait for a while. I don't look forward to having to take the front windsheild off to replace the dash. I've been told by one person that it can be swapped without taking the windsheild off, but I'm not sure.

As for the rear seats, I emailed Bruce and am awaiting his recommendation of the shop that sells the rear mats.

Instead of getting a box in the rear, I'm going to try to get the black mats that simply cover the rear seat wells. Same for the rear dash, I'd like to replace it with black cloth instead of the current tan leather.

I'll post once I actually do it. The rear seats I'll probably do within 4-6 months. The dash will take longer since I have a transmission rebuild coming up within 6 months.

Good idea. If anyone from the class is planning on tackling a shifter upgrade, valve adjustment, etc and would like some assistance, let me know. I'll lend a hand if you buy lunch!

I showed up kind of late (10:45) and some folks were already rolling up their displays. Saw some really cool cars though. I don't think this one was as well attended as the organizers had hoped. More advertising wouldn't have hurt. I ended up empty handed except for an Elephant Racing sticker. Would have loved to come home with a tech spec book for my SC.

I'm pretty sure I'll end up with the Seine Systems shifter kit. The Wevo is simply overkill for me. I sat in Rich Waltons car and shifted the Wevo (with the car off), and it definitely did NOT shift like a 901/915. But on the other hand, for whatever reason, it was also very loud. It's geared for track racing, and I doubt I'll ever do that.

Seine is $142, plus the Wevo shift coupler is about $175-$199. I might have all that put in when the tranmission is rebuilt. Or if you guys wanna get together and install a couple of 'em in your cars also, I'd be willing to do it at the same time.

Good idea, I'll have to buy you lunch in about 15,000 miles when I need my valve adjustment again!

Hi guys,

Saturday was fantastic -- now I only wish I had a garage. Great to meet all of you and see your cars.

Rich's car won top time of the day at the PCA autocross in Marina yesterday. It must be the valve adjustment and the new oil.

/ Johan
