I'd sure like to see some more detailed pictures of what kind of intercooler that guy P Vanderlinden is fitting under a ducktail. Could he be running the motor lower than stock? I've seen custom intercoolers fit under a ducktail, but never the stock one.

Maybe your right. I should ask him for some detailed info before I spring for a ducktail that would likely turn out to be useless.

I guess the lack of responce to the excellence question provided me with an answer. Well at least my other car got in and on waynes new engine book.

Definately a sleeper. Especially if you keep it badged as a T.

The other day i noticed that this guy is running an intercooled turbo motor under a carrera 3.2 tail... which *doesn't* have any more space than a regular lid,as far as i know.

Have a look, he *does* have a custom IC.

Kurt:

I would not rule out a spread in Excellence mag as this car looks great and with the added turbo power in an early car makes it an interesting story. Write the story and send the pics unsolicited. They may bite.

Does anyone know this P Vanderlinden guy ? He seems unreachable through the rennlist. I need to see his intercooler and how it fits under that ducktail.

Kurt,
I saw an SC with a turbo motor at John Walker's shop that had an intercooler stuffed in under a carrera tail. That would probably be the same fit as the duck. The IC was shoved in front of the fan housing and laid back at the same angle as the hood. John's comment was that it was out of the airstream of the fan and didn't do a lot of good. Make's sense.

Very true mark. I wouldnt think of locating the intercooler foward of the fan. The whole idea of the turbo motor is to make reliable power.

Stupid Question:

If you pull all (or the majority of) the air entering the engine compartment through the intercooler before it makes its way to the fan and engine, wouldn't the engine tend to run hot due to the intercooler heating the intake air up? And wouldn't this restrict the amount of air the fan can ingest?

That is an awesome ride. And you've got TWO of 'em! That's just amazing. I'm sure there is someone out there that can make a custom intercooler. Maybe even curved in shape or something. Anything to make it fit in there with a duck.
