3.2 Carrera Converting to SSI's
So what all do I need to do this conversion? Of course I need the SSI's, but are they the thin or thick flange? Do they come with the O2 bung? I know I need some kind of a block off plate, but where does it go and where can I get it? Finally, is it possible to keep using the footwell blowers? I believe in the stock configuration they only work when the engine blower is connected. How do I bypass this? What is a good 2 in 2 out muffler that won't rattle the windows? Thanks guys!

Don't know all the answers, but I'm pretty sure you need the thick flange SSI's on a 3.2. There's some kind of "J" shaped oil line you'll need and then you get to decide on a muffler - the options are endless. I like B&B and Fabspeed. Can you get past emissions with this setup? I think you want the SSI's with the O2 bung.

Thanks Richard. I just went to the Pelican Parts site and figured out the correct SSI's and oil lines. As for emission testing, don't have any such thing here in Mid-Missouri!

Stupid Question # 9:
What is the relationship between the oil line and the exhaust system?

You can use the stock oil line if your "massage" the heat exchanger some.

The 3.0 and 3.2 cars route the oil line in back of the engine (back of car) and the exhuast routes to the front, then around the side to the cat.
SSIs exit exhaust out the back, and the 3.0, 3.2 oil line is in the way of the passenger side flange. Solution is to replace the oil lines with the '74 style setup (or bend the existing lines).

I have ssi's on my 3.2.
You need the thicker flanges I suggest you get the re-routed oil line to prevent interference exchangers to line. It's an easy change. They should come with the O2 bung, confirm this when you call. I know SSI makes them. I don't know what block off plate you need, I didn't need one, but my engine is in a '75. I am hooking up my heat by using older style shrouds. They eliminate the heater blower and connect through the fiberglass fan shroud directly. The drivers side will have to be modified to fit behind the distributer (larger diameter than a '74 dist.) I have a 2 in 1 out Bursch muffler on mine and it is pretty loud, but my windows don't rattle! Good luck, this conversion is well worth the effort. If you don't already have a performance chip, I would suggest you contact Steve W. on this list and order one.

Besides the flange issue(you want thick), the oil line issue(use the '74 lines), there is also the issue of heat. The ssi heat inleats are very different from the 3.2 heat inlets. There are lots of folks that have done this mod on a 3.2, perhaps they can post some pics. But in case not, here is what a 3.6 would look like(same type of ss/heat/oil line mods)
