my dealer says that they sell original 930s steeringwheels - however - they are not embossed. (695 cdn. dollarettes). where does the black embossed wheel come from?

I did get mine from my local dealer (they also advertise in Excellence) - see if yours will bring one in before you purchase. Mine did to make sure and yes, it was the embossed horn pad! Although, Anthony says he found a vender for $375 - I would take it! Others sell them for nearly $500 Good luck! bS |
Ok, I'm going to reveal my big secret. Ebay!
I found this dealer selling the embossed wheels. This is the only wheel on ebay now but they had four up this morning. The auctions must have ended. Search completed auctions and you will see them. In their ad they say "OK, we put the aftermarket version up for auction and everyone asked for a genuine one. Here you go. A genuine 930S steering wheel with hub included! The horn pad has the genuine crest embossed on it." I figure that without having to pay ebay fees they make out the same. |

I just won that ebay auction -- Turns out the seller started performance parts AND FVD, then sold them both and is on his third company -- partsdepot or something. Great business man, good guy on the phone, and a great entrepreneur -- but you'd think someone would have locked him into a noncompete when they bought one of his other businesses.
In any case, I'm going to install the 930S wheel in place of the 4-spoker on my carrera. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them before, during, or after the process. Creature -- this is, we believe, the 968 Clubsport wheel. The thought is that it's the same frame as the 930S wheel, with a different horn pad. If anyone in metro NY or long island has a 930S crest pad, I'd be happy to do some comparisons, but even if they're the same and you have a 930S, but that still leaves the issue of actually finding the 968CS horn pad to do the install. Hope that helps. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but I'm psyched. |
just saw the 930s wheel on sale for $ 245.00 (without the crest )- thanks for the update - does he stock the porsche steering wheel or was that the last one? thank you

I believe they're in stock -- Anthony apparently bargained them down to $350, and that was my next step if the auction didn't pan out.
If they are the same wheel (I think they are), the shells are definitely available. The embossed horn pad is the hard part to find. Where did you find the wheel for $245? |

If any of you have Porsche PET (like I do), look in the techquipment section as there are a couple of factory sport wheels available especially for the '80's 911's that are much nicer (albeit more expensive) than the repro wheels sold in the aftermarket. I got one for my '88 and it is really, really nice. They look almost identical to the 968CS wheel that was shown in a couple of posts but they are specifically for the 911's. It comes complete with hub ready to bolt on in about 10 minutes. The Porsche part number is 000.043.161.00 and the color code is 8YR (black). They do have other color codes as well. They sell from your Porsche dealer in the $420.00 range retail. I paid $365 wholesale. Porsche usually only keeps 2-3 in the country so it might be slim pickings. I'll try and take some pics and post them in the morning if anyone is interested. The repro wheels just look kind of cheesy compared to the factory sport wheels but I admit just about anything is better than the original 4-spoke tractor wheel!!! Sorry if I said the same thing as someone else, I didn't want to wade through 5 pages. Ralph P.S. - Feel free to PM me if you would like me to research the part numbers and color codes again on PET. I did all of my own research on this about a year ago before I learned of this board. I'm just glad I got the wheel I wanted because it was special order and thus non-returnable! |

Hmm. My part # is 000.044.161.00 - it includes the hub, and supposedly bolts right into a 911. Maybe the 43 # is for the wheel and hub combo specifically for the 911? I'm not sure what the difference would be.
Mine was $360 plus shipping (no tax coming from CA) for a total of $372. |
does the 043 have the crest? could you post a picture carrerra 3.5L?

I just installed mine that I picked up from the dealer. The quality over the "other ones" that are sold is night and day. Once piece of leather and the embossed crest with horn insignia is very nice.

It's still not clear to me how much different the AJUSA/Pelican 930s wheel will be to the embossed wheel I just bought. The embossed wheels look they have a matte finish and the others look to have a shinier finish. I guess I'll find out in a couple days.

Okay, I took some pics of my wheel (Porsche Tequipment part number 000.043.161.00) this morning, here it is:

Took me about 10 minutes to make the swap. The aftermarket repro "930S" wheels do not compare to the factory quality of these wheels. It is one of the best mods I've done. While "original" for the car, the stock wheel is a piece of crap IMO. I took the liberty of going through PET again and here are the part numbers and color codes for all of the non-airbag sport wheels offered through Tequipment. They will all look similar, the difference being the hub needed for the particular application: 968 347 084 00 85-91 944/951 & 91-95 968/CS 7JX - Blue 7LD - Burgundy 8YR - Black 000 043 161 00 -89 911 7JX - Blue 7LD - Burgundy 8YR - Black 000 043 162 00 89-94 C2/C4, RS, Speedster 9YL - Cobalt Blue 6XL - Classic Gray 6YL - Magenta 7JX - Blue 8YR - Black 7LD - Burgundy 000 043 163 00 928S, S4, GT 9YL - Cobalt Blue 6XL - Classic Gray 6YL - Magenta 7JX - Blue 8YR - Black 7LD - Burgundy Please note again that the above are only NON-AIRBAG sport wheels.
